Wedding outfit help!

I am going to a wedding in August and need to dress up for the first time in ages, and I have forgotten how to do it. To be honest, I've avoided it for a long time because I felt rubbish about how I looked but I've decided that life is too short so I'm going to go. Ideally, I want to wear the same outfit for another function in September as well.

I'm fat and nearly fifty, and very self conscious, so I like to blend in rather than stand out. Having said that, for cultural reasons, the outfit needs to be very fancy - I definitely don't want to appear underdressed and I know that most of the women will be very dressed up.

I'm a size 18 and quite short (about 5'4). Don't like anything really revealing or anything too flamboyant. Classic styles are good. Nothing too short as I have stumpy legs and I'm ashamed of my flabby arms so they can't be on show.Blush I can wear most colours, I think.

Please help. I have never known how to make myself look good, but I really want to feel good on these occasions.

There's a similar thread at the moment with some great ideas....

Oh really? Could you link to it, please?

I’d suggest going to somewhere like house of Fraser and using their personal shopper service. I’m pretty sure they do it for free…or have offers on where it’s reasonably priced. Even if you didn’t get anything on the day it would give you ideas of what styles you look best in.

Good luck!

Defo try a mid-length wrap dress - flattering fit for small and curvy…

www.bombshellhq.com/collections/dresses/midi?usf_sort=bestselling - some good dresses for fuller figures here

Thank you both, only just seen your replies.

Some of the bombshell dresses are beautiful. Any idea how quickly they can deliver? I'm running out of time now as function is on Friday and I still have nothing to wear. Have tried my nearest city, there isn't much around...so many of the stores have closed. Sad No House of Fraser locally any more. No monsoon. Debenhams has gone. Even John Lewis seemed to have a very limited range. Nothing fancy in M&S, Next, New Look, H&M etc. Don't think I'd fit into Zara clothes. Blush

Nervous about buying online when I can't try it on and I have probably left it too late now. I really thought I'd find something in the city but there doesn't seem to be much formal stuff out there.

Can anyone suggest an online retailer that might have something and that could dispatch quickly?!

Next has next day delivery and they do lots of other retailers too. Plus easy to return in store so you could buy many dresses then return the ones you don't go with. Good luck.

AlexaShutUp · 08/08/2021 14:07

Fab, thanks for that. I'll have a look on the Next website. Being able to return them in store would be a definite plus!
