Shopping in Chester

I am going there very soon on a day trip. By myself, so no one else to please when going shopping. Yay! If you were me, where would you want to shop in Chester? TIA.

Personally I'd go to Cheshire Oaks, many many bargains! And a TGI lunch

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/08/2021 13:41

I know what you mean @Bananaman123, but it's an organised trip, so it's the centre of Chester or nothing. I really like the Le Creuset shop at the Oaks. Bought a tea pot from the outlet really cheaply. I justified it because we had one at a holiday cottage and it was a lovely pourer! I wanted to get something more frivolous though Grin

Since I discovered there is a Seasalt and a Joules there, I shall be going into those. Any more, particularly for clothes that would look good on a porky middle aged woman of a certain age? Grin

No one cares about my shopping. Apart from Bananaman! Sob!

Oh I used to live in Chester and miss it so so so much so I’m very jealous!

There used to be a shop called Laundry B (something like that) which sold lovely clothes.

Bravissimo always worth a look!

Sostrene green is a cute shop in the grosvenor centre (not clothes, homeware etc)

Enjoy wandering up and down the rows, so many cute shops to look in!

And go to Hanky Panky Pancakes Grin

Chester shopping isn't particularly good to be fair. Restaurants and cafes are really good though. There are a few independent shops that are ok on Bridge Street that might suit you.... Rock Bottom, Nicholls and Chester Boutique. The rest are more main stream high Street.

Pengalhions (sp??) perfume is lovely too!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/08/2021 20:29

This is more like it. Thanks people. I like Penhaligons perfume, but I find it doesn't last on me, sadly. Will have a look at Bridge Street. They seem to have a Joules and a Seasalt which I haven't got access to here.

Not shopped there for decades but check the rows for independent shops.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/08/2021 20:47

I love the rows.< Wonders if the tea merchant who sells the wonderful rose and violet creams is still there> :) Thanks.

Lovely vintage jewellers on the rows - beautiful items. Agree that the Laundry shop is good. There’s a space nk too. Jaunty Goat does great coffee - in fact lots of great places for lunch and coffee/tea. Agree that there is probably better eating than shopping!

Tbh quite a few of the city centre shops have shut/not reopened post lockdown. Some because they've gone busy nationally -Debenhams had the central unit in the big mall, Laura Ashley on the naice row with LK Bennett. H and M have shut up too. The Grosvenor Centre is pretty sparsely populated now - just tkmaxx and sports direct really.
There is a Zara next to White Company. And a white stuff near to Joules and Sea Salt.
The indoor market has some interesting food stalls and StoryHouse and the eateries close by are lovely too.
Liverpool for any serious clothes shopping, really.

Tickledtrout · 01/08/2021 20:55

Actually there's a Hobbs and a Jigsaw tooGrin

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 01/08/2021 21:01

We went to Cheshire oaks last week, not as busy as usual, so was pretty nice, with a lunch at Frankie and Bennys.
Didn't find what we wanted so are going to Broughton shopping park this week. Big tesco, primark, J D Sports, Next, etc etc. Not bad for Lunch either, I'm sure Dd will try and get us to eat at Frankie and Bennys again.
Chester is hard to park I find. So we haven't had a shopping day there in a while.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/08/2021 19:28

Ok, so I went to Seasalt, and bought one of the Apple tops, discounted from 25 to 15. And one of the bee sweatshirts from Joules. And I might have had a look in Space NK. I can't believe I forgot to go in Hotel Chocolate! I'm an embarassment to chubby chocolate loving women everywhere!
