Kimono dressing gown

Anyone watching Lie with me?

The main character has this amazing kimono dressing gown and it got me thinking about how much I would like one.

Anyone got any good recommendations?

I adore my Shibumi one (which I bought after reading a thread on here). It’s warm and light - the mix of cashmere and silk is like wrapping myself in a cloud.

An Indian Summer has some lovely things - great recommendation! Very tempted by a couple of the dresses. There is an Ikat dress reminiscent of Toast - but much cheaper. 😀

Yes, One Hundred Stars ones are extremely delicate! I had a new kitten when I got mine, I had to hang it up in the wardrobe and couldn’t wear it for about six months because he kept pouncing at the belt. I still don’t wear it much - I have a Debenhams (RIP) one I wear for every day which is light and thin polyester but can go in the wash and dries in about half an hour. The One Hundred Stars one is for special occasions like when we’re away for the weekend or if we have overnight guests and I want to pretend I’m Nigella Lawson.

Those Shibumi kimonos look divine! I want one of those now but I’m not sure I can justify £250, even on silk/cashmere, when we have two cats and a six year old DS. Do they even have sales?

ZaraW · 01/08/2021 08:01

I have a Shibumi dressing gown. Not sure it was worth the money. I've had it a couple of years and it's bobbles even though I don't wear it a lot.

Agree with An Indian Summer, I have dresses from there and the quality is excellent.

Fluffyandsilly · 01/08/2021 10:40

@SilverGlassHare I also mainly wear my One hundred stars one when we have guests. To give the impression that I’m always hanging around the house in it a la Nigella Grin

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 01/08/2021 16:36

I have the Paradise robe from Futon, light and a nice cotton quality made in India.

I have the shorter one which was £180 (!) when I bought it (lockdown purchase, I don’t normally spend that kind of money on clothes). They do have sales but I don’t know if the kimonos are ever in them.

Mine hasn’t bobbled yet, and I wear it quite a lot, but I’ve only had it for 6 months.

Can I ask how you style them? Do you buy matching pjs or wear over Jeans? I have been eyeing this up all summer but feel a bit clueless how to wear it!

100 Stars have started their sale, just for info (nothing catches my eye, my other purchases have been not so good)

PeakyPaula · 11/08/2021 08:07

@Lowlifeinhighplaces what size like with the futon company one? would there be enough fabric to cover a busty size 16 comfortably? I love the print and that it's cotton

Imcatmum · 11/08/2021 08:47

Etsy

beguilingeyes · 11/08/2021 11:16

I have a 100 Stars dressing gown and I love it so much I want to wear it out.

It's just hangs so beautifully. I wish they'd make dresses.

CheerfulBunny · 11/08/2021 11:55

I got my pretty hand printed Indian cotton one from HappyCabbageLondon on Etsy. Lovely and wafty and a snip at £35. There are a lot of sellers on there, actually. I love a long kimono.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 11/08/2021 12:54

@PeakyPaula, much as I would like to say yes as I love the one from Futon, I would not say it would cover comfortably for a larger bust.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 11/08/2021 13:10

Oh Paula have you looked at Susannah Cotton, the sizes look a little more generous

PeakyPaula · 11/08/2021 13:34

Thanks. Just looked and they do look more generous.

cruelladepoppins · 11/08/2021 15:08

japanya - you can look at yukata, kimono, some cotton, some silk, some lined with gauze, some vintage ... prices are v reasonable.

OldTinHat · 11/08/2021 15:16

I've just bought one from ebay. Brand new for £11.99. Loads of colours, patterns and sizes.

Stuffthisstuff · 11/08/2021 15:30

I wash the One Hundred Stars one in the machine, never had any problems. They're not great quality though (they bobble) but they are really helpful for hot holidays as the mid length floaty ones weigh nothing. Susannah Cotton ones are nice and Free People change their stock a lot and are decent.

As a previous poster said. Had mine for a couple of years. Cotton and really easy to wash,no special cycle etc. Definitely buying another soon.

mscynical · 11/08/2021 19:24

I eventually ordered 2 cotton ones from Etsy - EssentialDesignsLDN - which are fab and not expensive.

I was going to order again from One Hundred Stars but the material is not great in my opinion although the designs and length (I prefer the just above the knee ideally) are nice I just can't risk them being torn/holes appearing if I accidentally put in a lukewarm wash like my original one did.
