Hi, I’m wearing this dress to a wedding. What type of pashmina would you wear with it please? Was thinking perhaps cream. Any also worried that I won’t be warm enough given the current weather situation!

Thank you.

I actually love that ted baker tweed jacket and might buy it for casual mid week days at the races with jeans. Not with that dress for black tie though

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2021 09:07

It would look great with jeans.

Also, do.people really have black tie weddings? Everyone in black tie in the daytime? I've never seen this before, but I am a pleb.

BiscuitDrama · 31/07/2021 09:12

Maybe 20 years ago a long dress wood I have seemed overly formal, but given that people wear maxi dresses any time or situation it’s really not a thing any more. Plus the OP has checked what a few others are wearing. It’s really fine.

Yes, it says black tie with a hat or fascinator so I’ve not been sure what to wear as the two don’t seem to go to me. It’s still 3 weeks off so I have time to change my mind yet. And hopefully the weather has time to brighten up by end of August!

Hmmm. Trying to imagine that dress with a hat or fascinator, but struggling to see what might work.

Lcachu · 31/07/2021 09:56

Please ignore the comments saying a full-length dress is inappropriate - quite outdated.

People wear them all the time to weddings. A black tie event doesn't necessarily mean you have to wear a cocktail dress either. I went to a black-tie wedding and wore a full length and I'd say 70% of the women did.

Lots of guests wore a full length dress to my wedding and I loved it- it looked like people really made an effort to dress up and I never once thought they were trying to be mistaken as a bridesmaid either.

bonfireheart · 31/07/2021 09:58

Has anyone mentioned wearing white trainers yet?

StCharlotte · 31/07/2021 12:04

As it's black tie, I think a pashmina would be perfectly appropriate actually.

(If everything else is navy, I personally would go hot pink.)

StCharlotte · 31/07/2021 12:06

For headwear what about something like this - you could take off the veil if it was a bit OTT.

Blossomtoes · 31/07/2021 12:11

I always understood black tie to mean full length. This might work.

I’m in the anti pashmina camp, I think they’re very dated.

You've obviously never been to a Jewish wedding.
Pinkcadillac · 31/07/2021 16:19

This silk shawl could work www.silkfred.com/boutiques/trillion-london/accessories/silk-beautiful-flower-print

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2021 16:42

Charlotte - It's true!

Sisisimone · 02/08/2021 08:58

I love the dress but don't think any sort of jacket or cardigan will look good with it. I honestly would just wear the dress and forgo any scarf, jacket etc. I was a bridesmaid a few weeks ago. The weather was pleasant but not hot and I was fine. You won't feel the cold after a couple of drinks anyway Wink

Sisisimone · 02/08/2021 09:02

ps you're obviously a Southener. Us northern girls would never ruin the look of a dress with a cardi even in the depths of winter Grin

Rina66 · 02/08/2021 09:29

I think something like this...

Shawl/pashmina for this dress?
Kjr33 · 02/08/2021 10:44

I like the white blazer @Pinkcadillac posted I think you need something more structured than a pashmina or cardigan with that dress.

DeviousLatte · 02/08/2021 10:55

Your dress looks appropriate for black tie wedding! I would definitely not wear a cardigan, it would just make it frumpy. A pashmina/ shawl (either navy, silver or hot pink, depending if you want to play it safe or bit bolder) would be my choice.
