Your perfect work trousers?

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 30/07/2021 13:50

I’m looking for a couple of pairs of smart or at the very least ‘smart-casual’ trousers for work. I never wear trousers, only dresses, so am totally lost.

Which trousers do you wear for work? Inspiration needed! 💐

Those of you who have the M&S jersey trousers, are they smart enough for a tucked in shirt?

I personally wouldn't, as it's an elasticated waistband (like a Palazzo pant iyswim?)
Junobug · 31/07/2021 17:48

@Geamhradh Thank you. I thought that would be the case but was just being hopeful for the price.

almahart · 31/07/2021 20:29

@catfunk

Uniqlo ezy care ankle length trousers every time...
Second this. They are really well cut
Gufo · 31/07/2021 20:31

just ordered some of the m&s bargain trousers - which tops do you wear with them?

Shirts and blouses that don't need tucking in. If I want to wear a shirt that needs tucking in then I wear the next ones.
Junobug · 31/07/2021 21:21

@clickychicky which next ones do you have that you can tuck shirts in? My next tapered ones are too low rise.

SNKB14 · 31/07/2021 21:26

@SausageRoll2020

I've recently discovered the jogger waist trousers at Zara, they are literally the perfect work trouser, incredibly flattering somehow manage to suck my tummy in and are less than 30quid.

I've been ordering them in all the colours

Bon Marche are also good for a stretchy waistband work trouser! Around £16. I’m a nurse and wore them for a while now
Nitgel · 31/07/2021 21:29

Uniqlo pull on. They're tapered and flattering and so comfy for work.

Top tip for baggy knees for the Boden Richmond is to fold them, put them back in the drawer and leave them for a few days. Next time I get them out mine are fine. Maybe the stretch has unstretched back again?

Not sure if the link works but lottiedrynan posted a good video on Instagram answering this very question this morning

😊

Boden Richmond are good - I always take a long fitting, as i prefer them on me. These wide legs are similar fabric and gorgeous - very flattering - OOS at Boden, but found some on Ebay.

I don’t have a problem with baggy knees on my Richmonds. I get a long leg, because I find it’s slightly higher cut in the crotch-waist rise too.

AmperoBlue · 31/07/2021 23:09

These. Pinstripe, not the same, not too out there…
i.ebayimg.com/images/g/c1gAAOSwRspfzLAK/s-l300.jpg

They look great with shirts and heels, flats and tees….

BitterTits · 31/07/2021 23:21

I hate my M&S cheapies. They make me feel like the ultimate frump so I binned them this morning.

I want full length trousers to wear with boots but everything seems to be cropped.

DGFB · 01/08/2021 07:13

Another vote for Boden

Littleone638 · 01/08/2021 07:30

I’ve just bought a pair of grey herringbone “joggers” from Tesco for work. They are so warm and soft and snuggly like joggers but nice and smart, ankle grazer length. I think they had a few different colours.

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 01/08/2021 08:58

Good to get more updates!

Ideally I’d like slim/straight full length trousers I can wear with un-tucked tops and flats (hopeful the M&S bargain ones will fit this bill) and then some higher waisted, heavier trousers to tuck blouses in to. Would the Richmond fit the bill here?

Oooh. I'll try that. I usually just harrumph and chuck them in the washer!
Hoorayhenryyah · 01/08/2021 09:08

H&M are great for work clothes. I’ve got a couple of pairs of trousers from there. Slacks which have elastic at the waist and black trousers with a side zip, great fit and flattering. They do lovely tops and dresses too

Positivelyrandom · 01/08/2021 09:22

I agree about H&M. I find their cigarette pants really flattering and so inexpensive.

Fanceeepant · 01/08/2021 10:59

I find not too tight is good for me this pair are great and feel really comfy although it took me ages to find the right ones.

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 01/08/2021 11:49

I like those ones @Fanceeepant, but I forgot to say (duh!) I’m tall (5’11) so I am also limited to brands that do longer lengths. M&S and Boden both do, which is great.

I don’t know about Zara, Uniqlo or H&M - will need to investigate!

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 01/08/2021 12:14

I love these from Zara. The link shows the white ones but they come in a range of colours including black. I’m pear shape, these are so nice on and sit on my waist without a belt, which is a first for me! I’m a big 10 bottom half, and the Size M is perfect. Downside is they have bobbled. I did re-buy and am washing my current pair inside-out to see can I prevent that happening.

Dizzy1234 · 01/08/2021 12:32

I'm wearing matalan trousers, black ankle grazers £14. I refuse to spend a lot of money on work clothes.
I wear a shirt, usually patterned, untucked.
I have a bit of a lockdown belly so wearing my shirts untucked allows me to undo the button on the trousers when I'm sat at my desk.
For shoes I have flat, slingbacks so I can kick them off under my desk.
