Your perfect work trousers?

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 30/07/2021 13:50

I’m looking for a couple of pairs of smart or at the very least ‘smart-casual’ trousers for work. I never wear trousers, only dresses, so am totally lost.

Which trousers do you wear for work? Inspiration needed! 💐

What is your figure like? I have big hips / bum / thighs but a small waist so for me H&M’s high waisted wide legged polyester trousers work beautifully with a tucked in shell top and a blazer. But I do have to spray them liberary with anti static spray in the morning.

Cos trousers can work too but I find their sizeing a bit off for my figure - so I need to get a larger size and wear a belt which isn’t always flattering as it tends to be inches bigger than what I need. But I don’t have access to an alterarions service / tailor any more - if I did maybe I’d love them.

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 30/07/2021 14:29

Thanks for your reply @Ozanj

I’m an awkward shape for trousers, which is why I’ve always avoided them. But I feel like I need at least one pair as an alternative to a dress for a new job I’m starting.

I’m 12-14 and I carry my weight in the middle - lower tummy, hips and bum. I’ve got slim legs and a decent waist. I’m sort of hour glass-ish, I think.

I’m off to look at Cos now!

Next?

I love Boden ponte trousers for work - so comfortable! They come up (well they did all the times I’ve bought them) long so if you’re on the shorter side of regular (5’5” or less) I would go for petite or be prepared to hem them.

I've recently discovered the jogger waist trousers at Zara, they are literally the perfect work trouser, incredibly flattering somehow manage to suck my tummy in and are less than 30quid.

I've been ordering them in all the colours

OxanaVorontsova · 30/07/2021 21:54

I’m a similar shape OP and love whistles eg these

rowrowrowyourcoat · 30/07/2021 22:22

Hi Sausageroll, could you link to the Zara trousers please? TIA

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/07/2021 22:27

I’m more pear shaped, but mine are cropped wide leg wool trousers from Cos, from about three years ago - I have them in grey, black, and forest green. That sounds very unhelpful but Cos tend to bring out the same styles each year. Mine are sadly hanging in the spare room with the dry cleaning tags on, waiting for me to go back to actual work. (They do still fit though, I actually tried them on yesterday!)

dotdotdotdash · 30/07/2021 22:39

I like White Stuff chinos for work - might be old hat though

missmoon · 30/07/2021 23:53

Jigsaw have a great selection of excellent work trousers, quite a few on sale at the moment.

Ponks · 30/07/2021 23:56

John Lewis Modern Rarity range, I got a couple of pairs at great prices in the sale.

What's the sizing like on these? I'm a 12, eyeing up a medium but keen to hear from someone who's got them as we all know what Zara sizing is like...
SausageRoll2020 · 31/07/2021 09:00

These are the ones.

The sizing cares not for vanity.
I'm a size 10 and the large fits perfectly.

OxanaVorontsova · 31/07/2021 09:06

M&S Mia trousers are a similar fit to the Richmond but much cheaper

DinosaurDiana · 31/07/2021 09:09

M&S jersey straight leg £15.00

BikeRunSki · 31/07/2021 09:09

Boden Richmond trousers

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 31/07/2021 11:02

This is all excellent, thank you!

I’m going to go for a browse next week and see if I can try on the M&S, Jigsaw and Zara ones.

Boden Richmond are on my radar. I’m going to order a pair to try on.

Thank you!!

(Why are smart trousers such a minefield? I think for me it’s because the last time I wore them was for my first proper job when I was 20, flat of stomach and lean of limb and could’ve looked good in anything. No longer the case.)

These. Was coming to post this link.
They look amazing, hold their shape and "feel" expensive.
I bulk buy in the % off offers.

Richmonds are OK, more for summer than Hampshire and don't hold their shape as well as they're sort of a cotton/Chino with a bit of stretch. Their big pitfall is baggy knees. I have both, and love both, but Richmond's need washing straight after a wear because of the bagging.

M&S jersey straight leg £15.00
I am also living in these at the moment. They're like the ££££££s Me & Em ones I had but £15. Also stockpiling these!
Boogiewoody · 31/07/2021 12:15

Thirding the m&s £15 trousers. I have the wide leg and flare they are so comfortable and smart. I wouldn't wear anything else now. They don't dig in at the tummy which is useful if you're sitting down at work

RedLemonadeNTaytos · 31/07/2021 12:58

I’ve ordered the M&S jersey ones - straight and slim leg styles (wide leg always look a bit off on me).

Will report back! Thank you again 💐
