Is anyone a member of a group or page on Facebook for selling ladies clothes and shoes? I’m looking for an active page. The one I was on closed down and the other hasn’t got anything happening on it.

I’ve listed a few things on the Loved Labels one and also a few items on the Hush & Mint Velvet one, nothing sold Sad

I think the problem is there’s so many people selling my items slipped down the page so fast.

All the stuff I’m trying to sell is good brands (Whistles / Reiss / Hush / Mint Velvet / Jigsaw ) and I think I priced fairly (eg £12 for a dress in excellent condition / £8 for a top)

So watching with interest……

Should also add I’m not trying to sell dated styles - I appreciate no ones going to buy 2018’s cold shoulder tops - however cheap Grin

I’ve also tried Vinted but no luck.

I think

1 - the second hand clothes market is saturated as everyone has cleared stuff out in lockdown

2 - there’s lots of offers about as retailers try to catch up on lost sales so people don’t need to buy secondhand

3 - people don’t have spare cash right now / are saving more than before “just in case” due to pandemic

I buy a lot from charity shops. I used to be quite risky with what I bought as I knew if I didn’t like it / it didn’t fit I could (at least) make my money back on eBay - not these days. Currently trying to sell a Reiss dress I bought from charity for a tenner but no one wants it. I’m not trying to make a profit just want my money back.

I think ebay is far better for clothes than FB marketplace, which always just looks like a random jumble of items/sizes. I'm an avid secondhand shopper and I haven't the patience for it. The search functions on eBay are better and there are far more people on there looking for clothes and setting up searches for certain brands.

Having said that, some things just aren't selling anywhere, especially smart workwear type clothes, no matter how good the brand. Is your Reiss dress quite smart and structured? If it's on trend are there any trend keywords you could add into your listing? I listed an old maxi dress that didn't sell for ages until I tweaked the listing to describe it as "tiered" "prairie" etc. Might have been coincidence but it sold after that.

I've heard good things about Vinted but also that things can take a long time to shift, probably because there aren't so many users yet. Would be interested to hear people's experiences!

@Gilbot can I ask what size you’re selling? I’m having similar challenges with all saints clothing in size 10 but noticed that sizes 6 and 14 are all selling... Just wondering if some sizes are listed more often?

Gilbot · 29/07/2021 22:55

Mainly size 6 & 8 @Someaddedsugar

I'd have thought those would have sold relatively fast @Gilbot! One of my colleagues uses Depop and says that works really well for them - not sure if you've given that a try?
