Swimming costume import tax

Don't be like me. I've ordered a bunch of swimming costumes from Mymarni to try for size and colour, they are expensive so it's a huge whack on the credit card to try them... they are coming from Germany (I didn't really think about it) and I totally forgot about customs duty and import VAT. I now have £245 more to pay before I can receive the parcel, choose one, return the rest and refund (I hope) the customs and import tax. Luckily it's an empty credit card but ouch. One better be the perfect costume! Any recommendations for a UK supplier that's a bit different?

When you say a bit different, what sort of different do you mean?

This might be worth a browse? Funkita and Dolfin Uglies - both of which are good for swimming in, as well as lazing around in

I can't help on the tax, but for different swimming costumes, Finisterre, Fourth Element, Deakin and Blue (I love their cossies and they are much more robust than they look) all have different to the norm

GingerBeverage · 28/07/2021 13:58

Might be wrong but I think you can refuse to pay and trigger a return without incurring cost?

lovelylemonylolly · 28/07/2021 16:05

This is one of the ones I liked, it's a different cut than the standard strapy one piece.

I've ended up paying as they don't pick up the phone and I don't want that much on my credit card for ages waiting for all the reminders to pay before they eventually send the parcel back. What a hassle. I hope one looks nice.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll have a look for back up options!

Rigby and Peller - £££ but less than you've just spent!

Shein - much brighter! DD has had swimwear DP from them and it was good quality

Nitnquite as much shoulder, but look like you could swim in it

Can you report on how you like it when it arrives? I tried one on in a local posh shop (I live in Germany) to get an idea of size, but they only had the yellow which isn’t really my colour.

I sympathise on the taxes, I’ve just paid out for a Batoko swimsuit coming the other way. Fortunately I like it.

I decided to keep two. Paperwork to return and refund tax to be done tomorrow.

The fit is nice, holds up the boobs and smooths. I love the colours. And the styles are a bit more unusual to the usual costumes. Very well made and ethical/sustainable too. My toddler won't be yanking anything out because of the high neck which is handy. If I was being picky I'd higher the cut of the leg a little but I'll wait and see how I get on. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for an alteration. Overall I think worth the big hassle and I'm looking forward to my next swim!

Thanks, that sounds good. I might raid the piggy bank for one next year.

If you voted for Brexit, no sympathy. If you decided not to support the act of economic self harm, every sympathy and hope you enjoy your next swim.
