Fat arms

I'm finding dresses really comfy especially in this weather however am 2 stone overweight and am particularly self conscious of my arms. Can I get away with wearing straps in the summer? It's just too hot to wear cardigans to cover up!

What about something like this that you can carry around and use when you want to be more covered if you feel self conscious?

I think most people are concerned with their own bodies and keeping cool to be looking at anyone else’s!

Think your arms look v toned op, u look great

Raisingawolfpack · 27/07/2021 18:08

I can totally relate, and have started avoiding strappy tops, but I do wonder why sometimes, it's only really me that is bothered, I bet anyone else cares. I think it's that somehow I still think I am thinner than I actually am, so try to hide the extra 2 stone, but you just can't can you... I suffer with a fat neck and you can never make that look thin!

So I say don't worry. You looks good in your photo, and if it makes you feel better/ cooler going out in a strappy dress I say go for it. I think I need to give mysel the same talking too!

raskolnikova · 27/07/2021 18:18

I think this is one of those things where it only bothers you and no one else notices. I'm about one stone overweight at the moment and self-conscious of my arms too, but it's mainly because I'm comparing them to my pre-pregnancy arms (so about 4+ years ago) when I was really skinny. No one has actually recoiled in horror at them yet.

Honestly your arms look fine to me.

Orf1abc · 27/07/2021 18:31

Your arms are great, nothing wrong with them at all.

One thing that will make you look slimmer all round, would be a better fitting bra. You honestly don't look overweight, but a decent bra would highlight your shape.

KaleJuicer · 27/07/2021 18:34

What others say - lovely arms, no problem wear what you like. But I’d also suggest (and I mean this nicely - hard to convey over the internet) to ditch the breastfeeding bras (unless you’re breastfeeding of course!) and get some well fitting bras that you either can’t see or have a nice complementary colour and blend in. Or a comfy strapless bra (if such a thing exists).

cherrypiepie · 27/07/2021 18:42

Your arms look great op! Normal size, lovely smooth skin smooth and nice colour. Dress looks a little big (and as per PP a new bra!)

I'd still self conscious you could also try a cap sleeve or sleeveless rather than spaghetti/ camisole/slip dress straps.

I would avoid a shawl/wrap as that would draw attention.

PumpkinKlNG · 27/07/2021 18:44

Your arms are not fat! Although I feel your pain I hate my arms, honestly can’t stand them

pancakes22 · 27/07/2021 20:59

Wow thank you everyone for the reassurance. 100% agree I need new bras!! Just need to pluck up courage to go back to the shops and get measured. Really appreciate the support. My DH often asks when I'm going to sort out my weight so i think I'm just extra paranoid about it. Thank you again for being so kind

TellMeHowYouMet · 27/07/2021 21:01

I think the issue is your DH not your (perfectly normal) arms.

polkadotpjs · 27/07/2021 21:04

My DH (dick head) is the same about my weight. Passive aggressive dieting himself hoping I'll join in.
Your arms however look fine. Agree with bra comment though. However I struggle too with bras

IWishIWasABaller · 27/07/2021 21:09

You look absolutely fine op nothing at all wrong with your arms or with you. I have massively fat arms , spent years sweating away in various boleros, Cardi's etc and then decided one day I couldn't give a shite anymore. I'm now cool comfortable and don't care about my arms . Agree that your husband is an absolute ass though I'd get rid of that dead weight asap if I were you

backtoworkigooo · 27/07/2021 21:58

Try boob or bust and order a load, you put the measurements in yourself (I used a bit of string against our diy tape measure as didn't have a soft dressmakers tape measure) and it's free returns so I literally orders a few hundred pounds worth and returned all but 2.
I worry about my arms too so my new rule is I only buy things with tops wide enough to cover my bra straps so no spaghetti style straps, I just feel more put together and less exposed if my bra straps aren't showing

Laiste · 27/07/2021 22:07

Nothing draws attention to something more than an attempt to hide it. Sorry.

Cardis, bolleros, shrugs, shawls and weird nylon floaty things when it's boiling hot outside all scream ''i'm conscious of my body shape'' and immediately draw interest towards ... yes ... your body shape!

Ditto massive tent like garments and black leggings when it's a million degrees outside.

Stop it. Free yourself. No one's fooled by all this fabric. Accept your shape, chill out and just wear your strapy dress or a pair of shorts and a vest top in nice colours and be cool!

You look absolutely fine in that dress OP by the way :)

Perriwinkles · 28/07/2021 02:43

OP you have gorgeous skin and there’s nothing wrong with your arms. Dress in your favourite feminine frocks and celebrate yourself. Flowers

strangestranger · 28/07/2021 06:54

You look lovely. A pretty dress for the hot weather. Release yourself from external pressures and stupid body shaming shitheads and live your best life. x

You look absolutely fine and there is nothing wrong with your arms at all. Don’t hide away or be hot and uncomfortable. Embrace the dresses Flowers
