What to wear on dinner date

Mid forties and totally out of practise. The internet isnt helping as I get women with shirts unbuttoned to navel or midriff showing (yikes).

I want to look low key but irresistibly sexy just as everyone does. Don't think i want to wear jeans. What does everyone else wear?

@Defiantly41

How about one of these from Anthropologie? The plain one is more overtly sexy but not as full on as the bodycon one posted earlier
I like these!!

If you're going to wear flat footwear, can you wear a slightly shorter dress? I think midi length dresses only really look sexy when worn with heels

tolerable · 26/07/2021 14:39

are you able book a clinique/clarins make up demo/might need buy stuff but its good. near you(tell them what at theyre really helpful)...(dont come out look like crayola gang banged your face/natural..er yknow)
i dont comfottrtably wear dresse,nor wear jeweller.not keen on bags -and despite a ridiculous range of high heels..generally trsort to footwear i can run away in(dunno why/never run anyplace but face first into next f+k up.. i ;ove this www.urbanoutfitters.com/en-gb/shop/uo-black-ebba-slinky-halter-jumpsuit?inventoryCountry=GB&currency=GBP&currency=GBP&color=001&size=L&cm_mmc=rakuten--affiliates--ShopStyle%20UK-_-1&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=LS&utm_campaign=ShopStyle%20UK&utm_term=693672&utm_content=1&utm_kxconfid=v3sc298q1&ranMID=43613&ranEAID=0RpXOIXA500&ranSiteID=0RpXOIXA500-3t77jEtj2Wl3NVJZn5PCiA&type=REGULAR&quantity=1 and yes i would wear a denim jkt or open check shirt with it so dont get hit on til..you get there....

KidneyBeans · 26/07/2021 14:51

a bit more subtle, still tickin boxes www.johnlewis.com/browse/women/womens-jumpsuits-playsuits/_/N-fly

AlbertBridge · 26/07/2021 15:56

Don’t wear trousers if you’re want him to lose the power of rational thought.

Standrewsschool · 26/07/2021 16:01

@DGFB

Standrew, where is that final dress from? Love it
dress

It’s from Shein. Must admit, tempted myself!

AlbertBridge · 26/07/2021 16:02

This is less fitted but still sure to get his chinos churning:

With tiny metallic sandals and a barely-there skinny necklace. Put body oil down the front of your legs to get that lovely sheen. And if you hate your face, make out you’re scared of COVID and just keep your mask on 👍🏻

znaika · 26/07/2021 16:07

Albert Bridge you're killing me - if he wears chinos it will all have been for nothing. I love the short dresses but am 45 and scared I'll look a bit desperate... I know it's not on to say that but there it is...

OP posts:
gogohm · 26/07/2021 16:08

At the moment a summer dress is perfect

AlbertBridge · 26/07/2021 16:11

You’re 45 with long, slim legs.

AlbertBridge · 26/07/2021 16:19

It’s only desperate if you get your boobs out too. Or lick his face in between courses. Or wear a wedding dress.

Agree with albertbridge . Do not wear billowing dress .
Reiss have some great dresses and jumpsuits .Also get your hand and toe nails done! Shoes that you can walk in that compliment dress/ jumpsuit . Look at shoe colours in ads with dresses you like. See how the profs pair colours . A nice bag and a light coat / jacket . Have fun x

shouldistop · 27/07/2021 22:37

Why don't you treat yourself to getting your make up professionally done to give you a confidence boost.

Anniemas · 27/07/2021 23:22

Regards your face.....we don't see ourselves in the same way others do. Your date clearly very much likes your face so you should to!! Enjoy

Anniemas · 27/07/2021 23:23

Too!

exaltedwombat · 28/07/2021 02:40

He likes what he’s seen so far. No need at all to pretend to be someone else. Might even be counterproductive.

5128gap · 28/07/2021 12:17

With your figure I'd go for a really simple but very fitted plain block colour dress at whatever length you prefer, so you're covered but showing all your curves. I'd wear pointed flats with ankle ties (ankle ties being the important detail) if I didn't want to wear heels.

JMAngel1 · 29/07/2021 09:31

@AlbertBridge
You just made me snort coffee Grin

I feel a bit out of touch as well - went to a party and everyone, everyone was wearing big floral billowing midi dresses. I looked like a slut in a slinky drapey midi dress with a slit.

But reading your posts OP, you've captured what I want to look like - body skimming but not skin tight, classic but not work style boring (sorry, I don't like those Damsel In a Dress style ones) but with a cool vibe twist.
Something like All Saints style.
Let us know what you decide on and more importantly, tell us how the date went Grin

colouringindoors · 29/07/2021 09:47

Love this thread snd rooting for you OP. With your height and figure I'd def go stress, not prairie, not bodycon but sexy (black) fitted... Recommend Clinique make-up counter too. You can tell them if you don't want to look layered on.

AlbertBridge your are hysterical 🤣

I am in a similar situation - dinner date next week, also want to, ahem, have an impact! But 5'2 size 12ish pearshape...

colouringindoors · 29/07/2021 09:48

dress not stress!!!
