Receding hair line after baby

It’s actually quite noticeable now, I am scraping my hair back a lot (because of said baby and no time to do hair) and I look like a balding man. Hair is coming out in clumps in the bath, hairbrush etc.
Is there anything I can do??

It’s normal for some hair to fall out after pregnancy, but not that much I don’t think. Have you seen GP and had everything checked? Thyroid, iron etc - it could be something that’s easily fixed. Take a multivitamin plus iron if you’re not already. Also it could sort itself out when you get more sleep and have recovered fully from the birth, but it’s worth getting it checked.

I lost a lot at my temples, too, at around four months after giving birth. I looked like a mangy dog, but it did grow back. Grin

I think it felt worse because I had great hair during pregnancy — it was all thick and glossy — for the first time in my life.

I can totally relate. I've got a 4 month-old and it's been coming out in clumps for the last 5-6 weeks. It's the first time in my life I've been thankful for ridiculously thick hair.

My hairdresser said some clients recommend Evening Primrose.

Are you washing your hair regularly & combing it? My hair fell out in clumps when I was scraping it back without brushing it daily. Once I devoted a bit more time for me I was fine.

Uh, I had the same. It grows back but it's baby hair for ages!

Use Nioxin. It's amazing. Honestly, grew back so quickly but was a bit like I had cut it short for a while at the front Blush

@BridgetGetTheGin just had a look at Nioxin, the thing is the rest of my hair is (thankfully) really thick, it’s just this issue at the temples. Do you think it’s still worth trying it?

Try rubbing a castor oil mix on your temples before washing. Leave on overnight or for a few hours. Good for eyelashes and eyebrows too!

Mine has been awful this time round (2nd baby) and I ended up getting a blood test and found my iron was low. They agreed to the test as my DD is over a year old so apparently this is outside the ‘usual’ postpartum hair loss time frame. I haven’t noticed much improvement yet since starting iron tablets but I assume it will take time. My hair is awful - I can’t put it up as it makes my hairline so noticeable. I’ve tried switching the parting to disguise it a bit but I think it just makes me look odd. I hope you have better luck! I never had any of this after having my DS!

Definitely!!!! Mine was the same! Also fell out at the nape of my neck though - not bad!

I had this and it's stopped now (7 months postpartum, think it lasted about a month) but was v depressing at the time. I went to the hairdressers when it was happening who advised being kind to my hair in various ways so not tying it up too tightly (low plait not scraped up, use a scrunchy), not washing too frequently, and my hair is also coloured so I started religiously using olaplex which I hadn't done before, and bought new hairbrushes. I also religiously took postnatal vitamins but had been doing since birth so they didn't prevent it. Its hormonal but as you say when you've had lovely hair during pregnancy it's sad to watch it come out in clumps in the shower.
