Help!

Friend is marrying someone very posh, public school etc.

She told me last week that we are expected to wear hats to the day.

It's mid Sep. Can anyone in the know the help please? Do you match your hat to your dress? Or bag / shoes?

There are people who hire out hats and will give advice and match to your outfit. On the whole I would say match to your dress. Keep it small - you are going to have it on a long time

As the veteran of many posh weddings....

Some people love a hat, and go all out. Some people have a tiny fascinator. Some people don't do anything at all, and it's all totally fine. I find that the posher the wedding, the less dressy the guests (other than the hats).

Personally I love a hat. If you want to wear one, I'd find a hat you like then plan the rest of your outfit round that - much easier than getting a frock then trying to find a hat that works.

It doesn't need to match anything necessarily, just so long as it teams with the rest of your outfit.

@mdh2020 @Zarene thank you both!

The b&g have said they really want people to wear hats!

When are you supposed to take it off?! Before the wedding breakfast?

You remove your hat ONLY when the MOB takes her hat off, usually at the wedding breakfast when eating

I think you can't go far wrong with a simple dress all one colour with a matching hat to be safe. If it's good enough for Amal Clooney.....

@Laurie01 crickey Grin is that true?!

I have a feeling I'm going to make a faux pas at this thigh

If your showing thigh I quite agree Grin.

What style of dress/jumpsuit etc are you looking to wear?

You might find they have a hat washing line - this was a feature at the poshest wedding I've been to, where everyone pegged their hats around the marquee for dinner. It was quite nice.

Check out charity shops, we have amazing hats in the one I volunteer in (worn one no doubt). You want to match the dress or shoes (or both)
