Crazy length of flared jeans (pic)

I'm 5'7 and I don't have a pair of heels high enough to pickup this slack! 🤦‍♀️

The average adult woman in the UK is 5'3.

Such a shame. They are beautiful. Butter soft. So flattering at the top (honest, second pic is rubbish). But beyond ridiculous!

@fallfallfall

That’s how jeans were worn in the 70’s.
That's exactly how I wore my jeans in the 70's. The downsides are you get rising damp if it rains and the hems become all frayed and tatty. It didn't bother my teenage self but it would irritate the hell out of me now!
korawick12345 · 25/07/2021 13:47

They are a 34.5 inside leg, so ideal for those of Jerry Hall proportions 😉

ConfusedParticle · 25/07/2021 14:03

I am tired of fashion clothes that force me to go out and buy something else to make them wearable. Whether it's stupidly long trousers or see through dresses and skirts. If I need a new pair of shoes or new underwear, or a collection if different accessories to make it wearable, it can fuck right off.

Bythemillpond · 25/07/2021 14:07

Short of a few t.shirts from Primark and a couple of pairs of ultra long combats that have a way of supposedly turning them into shorts by buttoning up the bottoms which just end up the right leg length for me I actually can’t remember the last time I bought any clothes.

TableNiner · 25/07/2021 17:22

I have some flares that I’ve had shortened twice. It’s quite easy to do.

But yes no idea who is wearing these.

Did you not grow up in the 2000s?? You just wear them until the back of the jeans wears away from dragging in the floor!

pilates · 25/07/2021 22:03

How annoying because they look lovely on you. If you take it off the bottom I think you will lose the look of the flare.

HildegardeCrowe · 25/07/2021 22:12

Lived my life in floor-scraping flares in the 70s - the hems were constantly frayed through as a result (I’m not short). They look great on you OP, agree you should get them professionally shortened.

Passthecake30 · 25/07/2021 22:14

Ah too short for me then. I love it when a review complains about something being too long! 36” leg here.

Perfect length for me to wear with sneakers. Tempted....

The MiH Marrakesh mentioned upthread are about a 36", maybe even a tad longer. I used to wear them with wedges and pretend I was Elle Macpherson. Blush
SparkyBlue · 25/07/2021 22:33

I'm 4"11 so welcome to my world OP.

TSSDNCOP · 25/07/2021 22:49

Ha! My sister is Reiss's target customer, she's 6ft and a size 10.

We look v unalike Sad

SpringLoadedJizz · 26/07/2021 00:28

I'm only an inch shorter than you but I think I have tiny legs as I need a 29" inside leg and anything "regular" looks like this on me. 🙈

NotMyCat · 26/07/2021 01:16

I'm too fat for Reiss or they would have been the perfect length for me Grin

LavenderBrown7 · 26/07/2021 08:22

Off the point, but I see you have a red cabbage. Delicious!

IsobelEd · 26/07/2021 08:36

They fit nicely around the bum and thigh but if you shorten them you'll cut a lot of the "flare" off and they won't be so flared any more. Surprised at Reiss that you can't get different leg lengths.

ChunkySloth · 26/07/2021 09:25

All trousers are too long for me (most of the time). My inside leg is 27" 🙈 and that might even be to the floor, not my ankle, I should check that again actually.

ExConstance · 26/07/2021 11:09

Yes, in the 70's we'd either turn them up , just rolled, or just let them drag along the floor until the bottom of the legs rotted away through getting wet and just fell off. Buying the right clothes was important, looking after them or looking nicely turned out was optional!

BrassicaBabe · 26/07/2021 22:00

Ok. So they've got to go back. So where do I look for buttery soft, high waist, but a shorter length leg?! 😊

My daughter is desperate for a pair of flares. She’s usually a size 10 but if I hold up the 10s against me they’re up to my armpits and I’m 5’5”, she’s 5’2” so has no hope. Even petite are ridiculously long. I’m not sure heels or platforms are appropriate for an 11/12 year old. It’s not just designer brands. New look & primark both were too long

Carycy · 27/07/2021 06:36

Try being 5’3”. I am
So sad skinny Jean are no longer fashionable. Back to spending my life dealing with jeans trailing all over the ground or spending loads getting them altered.

bunnybuggs · 27/07/2021 06:50

I am 5 foot (shrank with age) - I do remember wearing flares in the 60s/70s and seem to remember they had waist sizes and leg lengths - so a sort of find your best fit. The velvet ones were lovelly.
Now I cannot wear flares/bell bottoms as I just look weird so I have to buy skinny or straight ankle grazers (and then shorten them a bit)
What I do find is how many jeans in a smallish size have huge waists which need a belt to keep them up) while they fit round the hips. Is everyone else straight up from hip to waist
And another thing - crotches are too low in lots of jeans even when hoiking the 'waist' to the waist level.
Perhaps I should give up the jeans and revert to crimplene dresses at my age. Grin
