Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs - what am I doing wrong?!

MKCH · 24/07/2021 09:34

Based on some comments on this forum I went and bought both the lotion and the spray of Airbrush Legs.

I got the lotion in Light and the spray in Light Glow (am pretty pale on my legs).

But all it seems to do it look like I've had an awful spray tan and gone orange!

It doesn't cover any blemishes or three veins etc, it just looks.... orange.

What am I doing wrong?! Do I need to mix it with moisturiser? But then surely the coverage won't be enough to cover blemishes?

Blimey, typos.

Thread veins!

Are you rubbing it in, using a circular motion, with a tanning not?

WASHI · 24/07/2021 09:41

A tanning mit that should say!

It is marvellous stuff!

WASHI · 24/07/2021 09:41

And when I say rubbing, I mean sort of gently buffing it in.

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 24/07/2021 09:50

I'm very pale and I use light too. It does look a bit tango when it goes on. I moisturise first so it's easier to rub it in (I don't use a mitt). Once done, leave it for a few minutes and look at it again and it will have settled down and look natural - it does for me anyway.

TableNiner · 24/07/2021 09:57

How much are you using? I literally do a couple of short sprays for my lower leg, and one for my thigh. I then just rub it around and it seems to spread like magic and settle into a very natural subtle look, even on my feet where the skin can be drier. I always moisturise first.

I would say it doesn’t cover veins completely but takes the edge off white skin and blue veins.

MKCH · 24/07/2021 10:06

Ok, maybe I was a bit impatient then! I'll try again...!

I have a tanning mitt so will use that. And go more sparingly.
I put it on and immediately went 'agh! Orange!' and washed it off 😂

I've found it dries to a more natural colour too. You have to give it a few minutes (and not apply too much). Not sure why they don't just say this in the directions!

Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 10:55

You’re not doing anything wrong, it’s shite!

CheerfulBunny · 24/07/2021 10:55

I'm not sure how everyone else does it but I lift each leg in turn to apply it. It does look a bit scary orange to start with but then when you put your legs down again and walk about a bit it looks fine. I guess the blood rushes back in and you go a normal colour again and it's not up close and in your face. It's maybe not the easiest thing to apply and needs a bit of practice. You can keep blending it for a surprisingly long time. I've not been using it long and I bought it on recommendation of MN. It's really good though, I'm impressed.

HappyGirlNow · 24/07/2021 13:34

Vita Liberata Body Blur is much better.

TSSDNCOP · 24/07/2021 15:15

It isn't shite.

Shave and moisturise legs.

Spray SH onto mitt, apply in circular motion top to bottom

Only skim across tops of feet

Dry for 5, good to go

Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 17:09

I think it is mostly definitely shite if your colouring isn’t suited to it @TSSDNCOP Mine clearly isn’t.

TSSDNCOP · 24/07/2021 17:17

Ok, but that's a different point, and you didn't say that was your issue with it. As to ease of application and general effectiveness it's a good product.

KidneyBeans · 24/07/2021 17:47

That doesn't make it a shite product Confused It just means it doesn't suit you
Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 18:02

Well yes, to me it is shite. Therefore shite.

SeaShoreGalore · 24/07/2021 18:19

I use about two/three pea sized amounts for each leg. Any more and I look like I’ve been tangoed. It’s fantastic stuff - much better than more expensive equivalents.

Mindymomo · 24/07/2021 18:48

I use it on my 60 year old legs, I moisturise first, then spray on and rub in. It does cover any veins well.

KidneyBeans · 24/07/2021 22:09

How odd that you consider any product that happens not to suit you as flawed regardless of it's success on othersConfused
TheOriginalMrsMoss · 24/07/2021 22:15

It's awful. It certainly didn't do anything for my legs other than make them look like I'd dipped them in Bisto. No idea why it's so popular. It also rubs off on everything. So much effort for so little gain.

ChristmasShearwater · 24/07/2021 22:20

It's shite. I bought it after it was recommended on here. I also bought a Hetty hoover cos it was recommended on here and that was shite too.

TSSDNCOP · 24/07/2021 23:06

In fairness, everyone knows Miele is the superior vacuum.

What you don't want to do is mix up your Sally Hanson with a vacuum cleaner though.

ChristmasShearwater · 25/07/2021 01:38

Ahhh that's where I went wrong!

I bet you're one of those people who posts one star reviews on Amazon because "it arrived a day late" or something else that was no fault of the actual product.
ktjb39 · 25/07/2021 18:35

It's brilliant stuff - I shake it loads then spray onto a mitt and buff it straight into my legs as quick as I can.
