Please help me Mumsnet style goddesses!

I haven't found a dress that I like but this one looks the least worst on me:

www.hobbs.com/product/rosie-floral-v-neck-dress/0120-5659-9045L00-RASP-RED-IVORY.html

I am way out of my comfort zone as I normally wear navy or black and prefer to blend into the background.

I think the black heels that I have look too harsh for a summer wedding. How do I soften this a bit?

My budget isn't high (prefer to buy quality pieces in the sales) but I need shoes, hat and a bag. Heels need to be comfortable as I have two year old who I will need to chase all day.

Thank you!

Where is the wedding, indoors or on grass? What’s the likely weather? How formal is it? I’d be wearing white trainers with that dress, even to a wedding, but can understand if you’d rather not.

www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-journal-chain-trim-toe-thong-sandals-in-white/prd/22884916?colourwayid=60433775&cid=17170 really like these sandals
For bags etc it's always worth a look in a charity shop or TKMaxx.

Espadrilles would go well with that dress I think?

Flowers500 · 24/07/2021 11:57

I LOVE your dress, you'll look fab!!!! It also looks like it should be comfy and elegant all day, not one of those dresses that looks good for the first hour and then turns into a crumpled mess. Assuming it's a summer wedding?

I'd do espadrilles or wedges something along those lines, with a low comfy wedge? I would try googling pictures of Kate Middleton for inspiration, she does a lot of this dress + wedges/espadrilles and looks fab.

What colours are you thinking? it would look fab with nude/navy/dark blue/white/goldish shoes?

This kind of thing?

Maybe white sandals with a chunky low heel (2-3 inches) and a raffia or straw type bag. Why do you want to wear a hat? They’re very mother of the bride/groom these days.

All of the shoes in the Kate pics are boring and too safe.

If I saw someone wearing white trainers at a wedding I’d be thinking they must have some sort of foot injury!

White/silver/light grey accessories

White, gold, silver or wheat coloured sandals or wedges. A gold, silver or bright yellow bag would work well. Don't bother with a hat. Many guests don't and it'll get in the way when chasing a toddler, and will be hot.

I would go in the opposite direction to your usual and get low budget shoes. Asda's summer shoes are good, dirt cheap and still last longer than you'd think for the price.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions everyone! I really appreciate it!!

I think I've always wanted a Carrie in Four Weddings hat moment haha. This is the first wedding I've been invited to where it would be appropriate. I should probably let it go though.

A nude or wheat coloured wedge would be perfect. Check TKs for bags. Hats are difficult, I love them too but no idea where to buy.

Incidentally, out for lunch yesterday at a gorgeous, seaside hotel and there was a wedding just arriving in the other garden. A very smart crowd, mother of the bride/ groom both stunning in hats and a few other guests but the vast majority in summer dresses and great shoes/ bags but no hats. Wedges were popular, perhaps as it was a garden wedding. Hats were always very popular ar weddings I've been to, but I think it's changing somewhat.

You'll look gorgeous.
