What do I do with my hair (post bad haircut)

I had very long hair to my waist but this morning had it cut to just below my shoulders. Other than the fact it’s a lot shorter than I asked for it’s just been cut straight across and with my very thick wavy hair it just sticks out in a kind of triangle. I don’t know what to do with it and it’s so unflattering. How do I style it?

It must feel liberating to have that length cut off. How did the hairdresser style it?

If you're prepared to put the work in, you can blow dry in sections and use straightening irons.

I have thick wavy hair just past my shoulders and usually wear it up. You can experiment with a plait, French braids, or piled up in a loose bun. Lots of tutorials on YouTube.

I always blow dry and style it because it's just so thick and bushy otherwise! This is the trouble with getting a lot of length off thick hair, it no longer has the weight in it to pull it down.

However, it must feel great to have that weight off, it's more versatile and quicker to wash I imagine!

It hasn't been cut properly if it sticking out like a triangle! I'd find a different hairdresser and ask them to finish it correctly.

My hair is short now.
Years ago it was long but I remember it always took a few days to “settle” after it was cut. Don’t panic and have more cut off or a restyle just wait a week or so. You never know it might be perfect given time.
Good luck.

Agree it shouldn’t be sticking out in a triangle.
Did you take a picture in of how you wanted it to look?

If you've got crimpers or wavers you can add volume to the top by crimping / waving the under-layer of hair at the top. Otherwise you could backcomb the under layer at the top.

Haircut wise some shorter layers on top prevent the triangle look to long hair.

Sorry just seen you've already got wavy hair. Back combing it is then!GrinWink

Then if you want to smooth any sections out use straighteners as PP said.
