Longer length swimsuit

FiddleFigs · 22/07/2021 10:38

I just don't feel comfortable wearing a bikini in my post-lockdown body, so I'm after a swimsuit.

Any ideas for good quality longer length swimsuits? (I'm 5'10") Also, ideally something that can simultaneously deal with a big bum, small boobs combo.

I don’t have any suggestions for swimming costumes, but have you considered a tankini? You may be able to find two complementary pieces which do what you need.

I have a really good one from Lands End, although it's more utilitarian than poolside posing. Best fitting one I've had.

UmteenthUser · 22/07/2021 10:54

Next Tall have them, only online though.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/07/2021 10:59

when you find it, let me know - am 5'9, but long bodied with short limbs. Bit like a runner duck.

Thank you - I find Next swimwear a bit thin, but will investigate.

Tankini top with board shorts-look on Lands End. I doubt I'll ever wear a 'normal' swimsuit again.

Oohh Lands End look promising - thank you! Not much of a poolside poser these days - mostly grappling with DC in the shallows.

I got one from Sainsburys with a little skirt bit attached. Sounds awful but actually quite flattering and very forgiving. Even DH noticed and complimented me on it!

Boden santorini do a longer length.

JonahofArk · 22/07/2021 11:32

@FiddleFigs I would highly recommend board shorts. Most have integrated swim briefs so they are sturdy, and they allow you to actually enjoy swimming/activities without constantly worrying about keeping a swimming costume in place.

And you can buy lots of different colours/types of tankini/bikini tops to change your look when you're on holiday.

And it means less landscaping Wink

Long Tall Sally. I have the same issue.

boatyardblues · 22/07/2021 11:40

M&S do longer length costumes too, but finding one in your size in store can be like finding the holy grail. Online might be easier.

Wisteria1979 · 26/07/2021 17:51

Have same problem here! Tried on loads that did nothing for me. Same with tankini combo. Ended up getting a couple of rash vest board short or bikini bottom combos but still looking for a swimsuit so will keep my eyes peeled on this thread and hoping for some good tips 😊

CrumpetandSausage · 26/07/2021 17:53

Another Landsend one here. Seems to be good quality. I wear mine lane swimming. I just couldn’t find a one piece swimsuit that was long enough before.

Freaking0ut · 26/07/2021 18:37

I see someone has already linked to Boden, that’s where I’ve had my ‘long’ swimsuits from before (I’m 5’11” so feel your pain, I used to spend my time either pulling it up or down!), my recent one has lasted me over a year of daily sea swims and washes and I’m pretty happy with it. It was a bit pricey but does feel really good quality.

EATmum · 26/07/2021 18:51

My favourite swimsuit is one I made - a 1950s style and shape. I think it works for my curves which are all in the waist and not the boobs sadly. I'm also short so this may not be for you. The pattern link is here, but it might be worth looking for that kind of style in stores if you like it? store.closetcorepatterns.com/products/bombshell-swimsuit-pattern

I’m very similar to you and I’ve bought a few tankini sets from Amazon which I love. Search for tankini with boy shorts for the longer style and most have padded cups. They’re good quality material for the price of about £25. I chose black or navy shorts so the patterned tops can be interchangeable.

SisterGabriel · 26/07/2021 19:58

I’m 5’10” and I bought the Biden one. If anything, it’s slightly too long for me.

Figleaves on Simply Be

Gendercritic · 26/07/2021 20:59

Most of the sports shops that cater for Triathlon entrants do longer length swim suits. Can remember where I got mine from but I had a bit of choice from several specialist online stores. I dont do Triathlon or anything approaching it but that's what I googled!

Gendercritic · 26/07/2021 20:59

Cant remember...sorry!

FiddleFigs · 28/07/2021 13:40

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! I've got a couple of Lands End one-pieces and tankinis heading over to me, along with a Boden (Corsica swimsuit). Hopefully one will be just right.

I'll report back!

@EATmum I'm pretty confident with my sewing machine, but feel a swimsuit might be asking too much of my skills (and machine!). There are some lovely options out there though.
