Overlay/fabric piece help! What’s this called?

I saw someone in a perfect sun dress today and I had to stop myself accosting her in the street to ask where it was from.

I have been trying to find similar online but to no avail. I don’t even know the right search terms.

I’ll have a go at describing and any suggestions will be hugely appreciated.

OK so either cotton or viscose, very floaty/soft t shirt kind of material, mini length. Sleeveless / thin straps. Here’s the hard to describe bit. The top is a kind of flap, or fold of fabric, so if you leant forward it would move away from the dress. Will attach a pic of similar but I can’t find the same as the style I saw today...

This kind of fabric piece but imagine in a v neck shape and with thin straps.

Yes to the fabric fold but if needs to be mini, v neck ideally, definitely not polyester and not strapless (v thin straps are fine though).

I sound fussy and it’s a really specific requirement!

AngeloMysterioso this is what I’m now asking myself! The woman was with someone else, possibly a boyfriend. They were chatting. I felt it might be weird or she might not want to say. It was a total stranger, not anyone I know. Regretting it now. The dress she had on was a perfect version of the type I’m after.

Thanks Hairypot but no. It’s mini and not polyester I need. The woman’s today was blue and white pattern but I’m not overly bothered if I find another colour, just want the double layer thing.

I googled “overlay dress mini blue white” and I’m getting quite a few.

Loads on h&m although mostly longer dresses, they call it a ‘flounce’

Should have asked - I reckon most people would be flattered! I saw a woman wearing the most lovely yellow sun dress the other day and had to ask - it came from Bon Marche of all places!!!
