Advice on modest swimwear to take preschooler for swimming pleaseming

Just that really. I want to take dd (3.5) for swimming lessons but I have no body confidence at all. I don't want to hold dd back coz of my insecurities. I would like to wear a very modest swimsuit but not seem out of place if you see what I mean. Would a short wetsuit make me look out of place ? I was thinking something like this (but obviously not this as my size is out of stock) www.mountainwarehouse.com/shorty-womens-wetsuit-p7000.aspx/dusky%20purple/#tabArea

Has anyone seen or does anyone wear a wetsuit type swimming costume for kiddie swim lessons and not felt out of place? Does anyone have any recommendations for a modest swimsuit ? Tia x

Wetsuits are a bit buoyant as well so can be a pain to swim in anyway.

Thank you soo much for all your replies. I have checked all the links and am undecided between Modli, sports direct and Declathlon. Sports direct say can't return swimwear, so a bit worried about that in case sizing doesn't fit me. The Aleumdr Womens Color Block Striped Print Strappy I am not sure if the top will start rolling up exposing my tummy. But I agree a boyleg swimsuit is what I need. It's just as well I asked the lovely Mumsnetters about wearing a wetsuit! Thankfully I didn't just go ahead and get one!

The Speedo website has excellent customer service.

I got a replacement due to size really fast and I think I got a return label. You can do a live chat and check. Not 100% sure but I was impressed.

They are pricey though so just FYI!

To the poster who asked I am not a 100% sure if I will have to get in the pool with her. The www doesn't seem very clear. I suppose the instructor will assess? Dd loves paddling about in the sea and paddling pool but hasn't ever been in a proper swimming pool.

Contact and ask.
Email or phone and ask.

If you're generally self conscious then new stuff can be tricky so try and find out what's happens first.

You may only be self conscious about body so ignore if that's the case.

Glad you've decided against the wetsuit- I had to be cut out of one. That experience did nothing for my body confidence.
I've returned swimwear to decathlon recently- no problem.

Rather than a swim suit and tankini top I'd go for a top over a boy leg swimsuit - less embarrassment if DC decide to pull the top up....

Squiz81 · 20/07/2021 19:09

Glad you decided against the wetsuit, it would have looked odd.

I have these board shorts and a rash vest similar to this. I wear them over a bikini. This is what I wear to the beach (I very rarely go to a swimming pool)

At my kids swimming school all the instructors wear long sleeve rash vests over swimming costumes and the men wear them with shorts.

Those shorts are from mountain warehouse by the way, just realised the photo cut the name off

Thanks all for your replies. Much appreciated. I was concerned about potential 'camel toe' issues with boyleg swimsuits so i finally got this
www.decathlon.co.uk/p/vega-skirt-women-s-one-piece-swimsuit-ond/_/R-p-160859?mc=8546361&c=BLACK

And a rash Vest & Board Shorts (just in case) from Decathlon

Will be contacting swim school to arrange an assessment fir my dd and now if I have the get into the water with her I'll be all prepared for it! Thank you soo much once again Flowers xx

Very nice good luck!

There were several women who wore t shirts, shorts etc in the pool when my DCs were babies and I thought that it just made them stand out more. A wetsuit would be similar.

Companies like Speedo make swimsuits designed for actually swimming which give good coverage and support.

I know that this is easy for me to say, but remember that nobody is really that interested in what other mums look like in the swimming pool. Have fun with your LO and try to forget about it.

Times have changed, even in the 10 years since I had my eldest. Its very common for women to wear rash vests and shorts these days at the beach or in the pool 🙂
