I love that dress @Sickoffamilydrama (Phase Eight IIRC?).

U.K. business casual or US business casual (they’re different)? Definitely fine for U.K. business casual.

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/09/2021 23:57

Thanks @OublietteBravo yes well remembered.

Interesting about UK & American business casual. What are there differences you've noticed.
We were chatting about a European show we have soon and we noticed that we are definitely the most formally dressed our European collaborators often wear a shirt and chinos, although one of the women had skyscraper heels for the 3 day event and was on her feet for 10 hours 😲

Sooverthemill · 22/09/2021 06:31

@Sickoffamilydrama to me business smart is suit or dress with smart jacket. Your dress is spot on and a jacket a definite but I feel the jacket you've shown isn't quite right for the dress. Too many shiny buttons. But I've been out of corporate life a while. Do you have any other jackets?

Sooverthemill · 22/09/2021 08:20

It’s a rather beautiful autumn morning here but a bit chilly. Only 3 more days of freedom before DH gets back. He’s finished the walk and is now having a few days on(in?) Stornaway. He’s raised lots of money

Tee: hush last year I think
Chinos: j crew old
Shoes: Aldo old
Sweatshirt round waist: Sézane new this season

Love that dress @Sickoffamilydrama, and agree you need a jacket if possible but I would go single breasted rather than double I think, that one is a bit ‘buttony’ maybe? Thanks to folks on here I was about to take a wee look at Oliver Bonas, and what just popped up on my fb alerts but an Oliver Bonas sale - check out Oliverbonas.com

Softpebbles · 22/09/2021 08:46

Morning ladies!

Beautiful morning here too! I don’t mind a 6am dog walk when it’s like this!

Today animal print (?) skirt - years old next
Jumper brave soul.

Not going anywhere but if I was I’d wear my Veja’s!

For women US business casual is more formal than U.K. business casual (or at least it was when I was last allowed out into the corporate networking world - who knows what it means these days). So I’d wear a dark dress/jacket for US business casual or a suit. ‘Business casual’ is actually one of my least favourite dress codes - as a woman it inevitably means being at least two degrees smarter than the men need to be. There is no context where a woman can wear chinos and a shirt and be considered smart enough - which always seemed unfair!

OublietteBravo · 22/09/2021 09:19

I’m not sure today’s outfit is quite right. Perhaps it needs different footwear (heels?!). I don’t have any in the office these days as they took all our storage away.

Shirt: Boden
Trousers: Reiss
Trainers: Jigsaw

@LemonPeonies

Dress size 12 from SHEIN about a tenner 😂
Ive been pondering on buying stuff from SHEIN, they have some nice bits on there.

(I am off to have a browse on the site now)

Sickoffamilydrama · 22/09/2021 20:06

I was interested in SHEIN until I read about the app slightly worryingly the Chinese government are using it to gather information, it's all part of there world domination plan 😲 sounds all very tin hat but is actually real!!!

Thanks all for the jacket suggestions I think I need to buy a few of these from whistles in different colours to go over dresses

Oh and interestingly although there wasn't many women today, the ones around were wearing less of the fitted pencil/sheath type dresses that are usually business and more of the longer style with more pattern and colour than before.

There was still the odd few in sky high heels, some who looked like they were in serious pain which I always feel a little sad about, fine if they are comfortable wearing them but literally painfully torturing yourself.

20FlowerPower · 22/09/2021 20:39

@Sickoffamilydrama I bought that Whistles jacket in a burgundy / grape colour a few years ago and it was a really great buy - goes with so many things and it is a really nice fit

MrsPear · 22/09/2021 20:56

Hope no one minds me intruding and de lurking. I would like to add just to give me a kick up the bum and try more.
Jeans next
Shirt next
Tank homemade - it got cold on the touchlines tonight

Sickoffamilydrama · 22/09/2021 21:18

Well done @MrsPear of you made both of them!

Thanks @20FlowerPower are the pockets real or those annoying fake ones?

Getting ready for tomorrow (same event as today) and decided to be even louder with my dress. I've always felt happiest in colourful clothing and want to become comfortable wearing it for work as the more true to myself I am the more confident I become.

Dress (is bright emerald green) Next
Jacket M&S but annoying stiff fabric and small pockets so does for now but needs replacing.
Brogues Clarks

Welcome @MrsPear - great knit (I’ve never managed to knit any garment more complicated than a scarf).

I really love your green dress @Sickoffamilydrama.

I decided that today was a day for a dress. Only a few more days of sunny weather according to my weather app - so I’m making the most of them (and secretly longing to wear boots Grin)

Dress: Boden
Trainers: Gabor

@EllaPaella the new look cullotes arrived. I’m not sure. I feel they make me look really wide! They are a snug fit.

In my head I would wear with black tights under and a chunky knit.

What do you think? Modelled with one dr marten!

I like them @Softpebbles I'm not sure if they would look better slightly taken up i could be wrong how about just roughly pinning them up to give it a try?

EllaPaella · 23/09/2021 22:15

@Softpebbles oooh I think they look okay? They are wide but with black opaques and a neat fit black jumper I think they will work!

@Sickoffamilydrama from memory the pockets are real but small - it's currently packed up with the rest of my "real" work clothes under the bed Blush

Today has been another "ode to autumn" dress - this one I've had at least ten years and again only comes out from September - early December

Dress - H&M (ancient)
Leggings - H&M
White thermal underneath - M&S heat tech

@Softpebbles I like them but think you should get them taken up
@20FlowerPower nice dress!

Autumn still kind of odd as I want to wear my autumn clothes but feel I haven’t done my summer things justice this year
Tee: Fwp by Rae
Chinos: j crew
Sandals: Birkenstock’s
Sweatshirt: hush ( the ginger one from last autumn)

Thanks for the baggy trouser feedback. Despite only being £13 they are going back as I feel they make me look huge around my tummy. I do carry a bit of podge there and they just emphasise it. Also they don’t have pockets and I think that would make them better!
