Help me find a dress/outfit please?

Hi all.

I’m going to a wedding (registry office followed by a meal in a restaurant so not massively formal). I’m looking for a dress/outfit but I’m really struggling. I don’t normally wear ‘nice’ things and getting dressed up with the expectation of looking nice really stresses me out. I love clothes and enjoy shopping but just not for this type of thing. I don’t quite know how to describe my style…I like quite feminine dresses but oversized with chunky boots…or boiler suits. I tend to wear mostly dark colours, chunky knits and some animal prints.
The majority of wedding guests are really beautiful younger women who will look stunning in strappy dresses and bodycon etc….I feel like if I try to look like that I’ll look stupid. But my style just doesn’t work for a wedding and I feel like I’ll stick out like a sore thumb.
I’m in my 30s, 5’5” and a size 6 ( but with a slightly heavier chest that sometimes needs an 8)
Help??

What about a jumpsuit?

That’s nice.. I would consider a jumpsuit…I just don’t think that particular one would look very good on me….She looks really tall and has a lovely in-proportion figure.

You may need to get it (and jumpsuit) taken up for the length, but at 5'5" size 6 / 8 chest, I really don't think you have anything other than a lovely figure yourself!!

Have a look on dancing leopard - it’s my favourite brand lately - lots of lovely shirt dresses and jump suits I think you might like Smile www.dancingleopard.co.uk/products/sami-jumpsuit-in-silhouette-light-blue

Thanks @livingoffcoffee. On paper it sounds like I do have a good figure. The reality is different. I’ve had 2 children and am all saggy and lumpy so very self conscious when it comes to stuff like this.

What are you most self conscious about? Might help find something in a style you'll feel comfortable in

Why don’t you just wear an oversized dress and some chunky sandals instead of boots? There’s no rule that says you need to wear stripper heels and a body con mini .

Michellexxx · 18/07/2021 21:30

Also, agree with pp re chunky sandals and oversized dress! Definitely don’t need to wear high stilettos!

Kanaloa · 18/07/2021 21:32

Also agree with a pretty dress chunky sandals - depending on budget I absolutely love the doc marten ones. I love how they add a bit of an edge to an outfit.

Love these three from ASOS....

Thank you so much everyone. Some really lovely suggestions. I think I chunky sandals could work well. I have some DM ones. I have a whole range of DM. I loved one of the Pretty Lavish dresses and can imagine wearing it with my sandals. I’m going to order that and a couple of jump suits and try them on. 😊
