Wedding guest shoe help!

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 18:05

Hi,
So I’m going to an outdoor wedding next week and have bought this dress to wear but I have no idea what shoes to get to go with it. It’s very long (comes to my ankle in places)

Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks you

Based on my own thread related to wedding guest dresses a few weeks ago, I would expect someone to come along and tell you it's inappropriate to wear black to a wedding.

I think it's fine, but would go for bright colourful shoes/accessories. What colours do you like? And budget?

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 18:15

@livingoffcoffee Oh no really? Inappropriate is a ridiculous notion. I’m sorry that happened. Some people are such shits.
I’m glad you’ve said bright as I was leaning that way. I was thinking maybe turquoise? I have purple hair so didn’t want to go with that colour.

@Fangsalot89 apparently white, black, red, and green are all inappropriate for a wedding 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm on-board with no white, but the rest is ridiculous to me.

Turquoise would work! If your hair is bright purple, I'd probably go with a paler turquoise. Or if your hair is more pastel purple, bright shoes.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 18/07/2021 18:23

Oh I love the dress. Where is it from please?

Turquoise sounds lovely. Would definitely go bright!

PurplePansy05 · 18/07/2021 18:24

It's a very funeral style dress, OP, sorry, I'm firmly in a camp no black at a wedding.

AuntieDolly · 18/07/2021 18:26

Silver flatform sandals

iwannascream · 18/07/2021 18:27

That dress is amazing, and you will look amazing in it (can you tell me where you got it from).

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 19:47

@livingoffcoffee white and cream I wouldn’t dream (I absolutely hate myself for writing that 🤣) but anything else is fair game surely. Being an adult with these amount of faux pas is too much for me at times.
Thanks for the suggestion! X

@MarshmallowsOnToast

EMP lovely. Think it’s reduced plus a weekend 20% off so go for it.
It’s a black slip dress with the lace bit that goes over the top as a separate.

I would also like to know where it's from! I always wear black to weddings; I'm a goth...not gonna get me in pink/navy/teal flowery frocks!
I'd go silver shoes with that.

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 19:50

@PurplePansy05 Don’t need to be sorry. I love it. The bride loves it. It’s all good and it’s personal preference. One of her bridesmaids is wearing black and DMs 😊

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 19:51

@AuntieDolly I don’t know why but silver never even crossed my mind but I love that idea!

@BobbinThreadbare123 @iwannascream
Thanks ladies! 🥰

EMP (usually a discount too for the weekends.)

Would advise though, I’m a size 14-16 so went with a 16 to ensure it fits.
It’s great but if you have boobs bigger than 38 DD like myself, you might want to up the size as it’s a bit snug round the ladies. Thankfully it doesn’t look stupid but in hindsight, I might be more comfortable with a little give round there. ☺️

I would go red shoes and bag with that dress. I was at a wedding a few weeks back and a guest wore a lacy black jumpsuit with red shoes and I was totally jealous!

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 20:02

@movingadviceneeded ooof that is quite a striking look! I like that idea too

shallIswim · 18/07/2021 20:06

Bloody hell. I wore a red dress with black velvet long duster jacket for my son's wedding. What must the other guests have thought?? Honestly it didn't occur that I shouldn't wear black!

ellyeth · 18/07/2021 20:14

I have to admit I would be a little cautious about black but I think if colourful accessories are added -shoes, bag and perhaps a piece a necklace or bracelet, it will look very chic (I like the idea of cerise or turquoise).

Fangsalot89 · 18/07/2021 20:15

@ellyeth May I ask why you’d be cautious of black? I’m hoping to go with a bright pair of shoes to lift it ☺️

Lovely dress- I’d go for red suede.

movingadviceneeded · 18/07/2021 21:57

Agree with red suede - a pointy toe would look lovely!

ellyeth · 19/07/2021 10:04

As an older person, I tend to see black as a funereal colour - though these days some funerals have a no-black stipulation. However, as I said, I think if bright accessories are worn the outfit will look very nice.

StCharlotte · 19/07/2021 19:29

I was called a dick for questioning all the banned colours on another thread (I'm still smarting Grin)

I have worn black and red to several weddings. In Italy, black is practically de rigeur for weddings.

It's a fabulous dress. I also like the idea of silver shoes.

Fangsalot89 · 19/07/2021 20:15

@StCharlotte I’d be interested to hear how that comment came about! Mumsnetters strike again but thankfully this thread has been joyous.
Thank you for the kind words (to everyone too)….. you dicks 🤣

I have worn cream to a wedding. Also worn black on occasion. Nobody fainted, sky didn’t fall in - I dont get this weird thing about dress ‘rules’ at a wedding at all. Your dress is lovely op. If it was me I think silver shoes would be awesome

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/07/2021 20:23

Ooh, or a bronze or rose gold…
