I need a swishy summer dress or two!

I'm 52, top heavy, size 10/12, 5'4" and want a lightweight not jersey summer dress or two.
Something lightweight & "swishy" in a floral print maybe? Didn't think it would be that hard but not getting anywhere so far on the net or in shops.

Ive just bought this Fat Face dress.

Looks better on than in the pictures, I've not tried it off the shoulders as that's not my thing

PalacePaper · 18/07/2021 15:27

I love that dress @Oldraver, looks perfect for summer swishing!

Looks like I'm not the only one as already sold out in most sizes - I'll keep an eye out for returns

Branleuse · 18/07/2021 15:42

also nicer in real life than in the pics.

balzamico · 18/07/2021 15:44

Looks like I'm too late for fat face but the Asda ones are lovely - I wouldn't have thought of them, thank you!

@PalacePaper I bought it from the shop on an off chance. When I looked it up online it said it was in two lengths and I would of preferred longer but all out of stock

Marks and Spencer’s have some great dresses at the moment. This one has caught my eye www.marksandspencer.com/floral-angel-sleeve-midi-wrap-dress/p/clp60518479

H&M have lots! Also in cotton so though not swishy, they are cool and thin and light. Search sundress on the website

JustYourAverageSue · 19/07/2021 07:48

Have you looked on SHEIN? I've bought a few dresses off there that are floral/lightweight and they are always nicer than I expect them to be.

Disneyblue · 19/07/2021 08:25

I hear so much about Shein. I ordered 5 dresses off there recently and sent every single one back. I find the quality awful. Some of the fabrics they use feel so cheap.

H and M have some lovely floral swishy dresses in at the moment! ....

I've just bought some gorgeous dresses from shein - quality was so much better than I expected and they now ship from uk so don't take weeks to arrive - I'm top heavy and find o have to avoid their button up styles but their L is generally a good fit (size 14 usually)

OwBist · 19/07/2021 10:14

I've discovered Emily and Fin. Lots of fun fabric, and different styles to suit different body shapes. emilyandfin.co.uk/

Collectif are great for 50s style summer dresses.

There are some great midi dresses in Marks at the moment. I’m a similar size and shape to you and have just bought this, which is brilliant in the heat.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 19/07/2021 10:36

Shein will be a polyester so honestly I’d avoid as polyester isn’t breathable and you’re going to end up more sweaty.

It may be too alternative but I go for the recycled sari silk hippie dresses (or maxi skirts which can double as a dress) like this

velvetbee.co.uk/collections/recycled-sari-silk-dresses/products/recycled-sari-silk-goa-dress-celebration

Super lightweight and very floaty and light, the silk is perfect for allowing a breeze and keeping cool.
I’m 35 weeks pregnant and been living in them Grin

I am a recent Seasalt fan. They have some lovely dresses just now.

M&S have had some great dresses recently. Although the best ones always seem to sell out v quickly.

Shein is hit and miss, I'd heard a lot about it too amd thought I'd give it a try. Also ordered 5 dresses and returned 4. The one was just perfect. I think they have cheap and cheery loss leaders and some few good ones. I have another package of 3 dresses delivered late today which I'll open tomorrow when I'm fresh. The returns were easier than I expected to be fair. Fingers crossed for the three as they're meant for a holiday coming up.

I've just found airycloth.com

Peraltiago · 22/07/2021 11:55

I bought this one on Monsoon, though I see this colour has now sold out:
www.monsoon.co.uk/dolly-floral-embroidered-midi-dress-red-14044809.html

They do other colourways though... it's very flattering!

@MikeWozniaksGloriousTache

Ooo. I love that dress! Just had a look and it’s sold out 🥴

Out of curiosity how much is it please?
