Need some help dressing this old fat body.

So lost my fashion mojo. I'm needing some summer dresses, thin strapped or strapless, preferable natural fabrics. I'm a size 14-16 big busted carry all my weight on tummy and thin legs. I look okay in skinny jeans and tunic tops but too warm in summer. Also need some lightweight trousers love the look of linen but baggy bottom half makes me look huge all over, as do harem trousers as too soft around the waist. Can anyone find me anything to wear.

Anyone?

I would have thought that big chest would mean short sleeved dresses rather than strappy- don't your bras have thicker straps? I'm an E cup, and just can't wear strapless or strappy, because I need decent supportive bras.

I am neither stylish nor beautiful, so please feel free to ignore my advice. I tend to wear summer dresses from hush (sizes are daft, size down!) or seasalt/white stuff, I only wear cotton tbh.

My friend is similar. Slim leg lightweight trousers and woven collarless longish tops. V and scoop neck t shirts in dark colours with a very light shirt/cardigan over.
Tunic shortish dresses in dark colours.
Big top half in strapless is difficult to create a balanced shape. I find floaty or light shirts cooler than tight strapless things.

There are some nice ones on Hush I'll have another look when I've got a more time, as for strapless bras, I have some soft bandeau ones which are fine for under bandaue tops or fitted strappy dresses as they add en extra layer, I'll post link in a minute. I also have a few bra sized bikini tops that I use instead of bras, they have to be unpadded.

You will look much slimmer in a proper supportive bra. I am a similar size and shape and wouldn't wear one of those other than perhaps to sit in the garden.

Look for dresses or tops with a strap an inch or more wide, or with a short sleeve and wear a proper bra. Alternatively look at Bravissimo strappy tops as they have a full underwired bra inside.

You can buy bras that can be adjusted to be racer back, cross over or halter neck too.

As you have good legs wear short or knee length dresses, or slim fitting shorts with a looser top so you are showing off your slim bits.

This is a recent buy that looks much better than on the model and I even had complements from my children which is unheard of.

You see if I wear slim trousers and a loose top instead of looking classy I just look old and frumpy. Also shorts I can wear short denim ones but anything knee length looks awful. I'm only 5'2 so that doesn't help.

It's not that I don't know how to dress my body, it's just finding things in the shops that I struggle with.

I'm in dresses from Boden and Monsoon. All loose and floaty but I have to hide a colostomy bag at the moment so they are fine for me. They are all midi or maxi and have thick straps or a small sleeve.

Would that sort of thing be any good for you?

I love that Asos dress - I'm having my bag reversal next week so going to buy that to hopefully wear after that!

Imtoooldforallthis · 16/07/2021 12:20

I'd love to wear long and floaty and in my head I'd look glamorous, in reality I'd look like a sack of potatoes. That asos dress comes in a green as well which I've ordered.

Well, that ASOS dress looks fab!
I'm short too, and shorts just look weird on me, so I get that!
A maxi dress for short people really is the unicorn of dresses, isn't it? I had a gorgeous floaty one from BHS (I know!) That was perfect length, just above the ankles, and for some reason (maybe lots of awful rainy summers) I sent it to the charity shop... regretted it ever since! It was a gorgeous green too, perfect for my colouring Sad

Imtoooldforallthis · 16/07/2021 12:20

I need it to be fitted or at least fitted under the bust.

Sainsbury's and Asda have that type of dress. The Sainsbury's ones are nice prints too
