Hey!

I have a little bit of money and I want to invest in some decent make up. Charlotte Tilbury products have caught my eye! The only product I have used so far of hers is the magic cream (gifted) which I did really like but I'm nervous to splash out on any more because they are so expensive!

Is there any products of hers that are really good and you would recommend? On the other hand, any that are really not worth the price tag in your opinion?

Thanks!

I brought a CB lipstick and liner once and it was so so awful. The colour dosent come out how you would expect and the liner was just awful. I know some people swear by her stuff but I'd avoid the lipsticks

spinningspaniels · 15/07/2021 20:44

None of it is worth the price tag. It's Rimmel quality in fancy packaging.

I bought a complete make up kit after reading glowing reviews on here. I realised that it was obviously from bots as it was the worst quality make up I've ever bought. The mascara was like thick black superglue. My young adult DDs even said No thanks. The kit was around £160 and ended up in the bin.

It's a triumph of marketing and little more.

Lollypop701 · 15/07/2021 20:48

I love Bobbi brown makeup

LordEmsworth · 15/07/2021 20:49

I have the Pillow Talk eye palette, and it's amazing. So I bought another eye palette and... meh.

Most of my make up is Bobbi Brown, with a bit of Nars and Laura Mercier thrown in. Oh, and some Hourglass and Trish McEvoy. If I could only have one... I'd probably stick with Bobbi.

sakuramiyagi · 15/07/2021 20:49

I wouldn't waste your money on the brand.

So far I have tried the following:

  • two mascaras both applied very clumpy and dry out.
  • blusher, broke into pieces within weeks.
  • setting powder, very yellow and looked awful on skin.
  • foundation, again very yellow, broke down very quickly.
  • concealer, again yellow and very obvious.
  • highlighter, too glittery.

I would recommend Chanel or Giorgio Armani if you want to invest in luxury makeup.

Mintyt · 15/07/2021 20:50

Do not waste your money

showmethegin · 15/07/2021 20:53

Fenty - Foundation
MAC - Lipsticks/eyeshadows
NARS - Bronzers/blush

SirenSays · 15/07/2021 20:57

I had an eye shadow palette for green eyes, and I really liked it. The colours did make my eyes look brighter, and made the green pop. It was easy to blend and nice to use but it wasn't mind blowing so haven't bought anything else from her.

Nightlystroll · 15/07/2021 20:58

I've never had anything from CT - I just couldn't justify spending that money...unless of course I had vouchers. Have you looked at any reviewers on youtube?
I watch
Pampered Wolf
Jessica Braun
Zabrena

I'm not saying there arent others but I have found that these are pretty honest and will say if they don't like it. They all have done reviews of CT and have different opinions. Zabrena has oily skin, the others dry skin so maybe that influences their opinions. Google them and see what they say. Jessica Braun did a good dupe video for CT products.

Let us know what you bought and what you thought.

Nightlystroll · 15/07/2021 21:00

If you've got money to spend, look at the hourglass face palettes. They're gorgeous. I got one in the sale at half price. One of my best buys and I would buy again.

FrontRowSeat · 15/07/2021 21:01

I fell for the hype and got the Pillow Talk lipstick - it’s a brown/orange on me. Awful. Can’t beat a Mac eyeshadow for pigment.

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 15/07/2021 21:04

Im pretty that sure Charlotte Trilbury have bots/ PR people that post on these boards around Black Friday/ Christmas time as there's always a surge of gushing reviews around then.

I tried it once in Fenwicks and it looked like drag make-up on me.

morepizzapls · 15/07/2021 21:06

Ah pretty unanimous it's hyped and overpriced then! Glad I asked.

I've seen a few youtubers but I do always have to wonder if they are being paid to collaborate/review.

That's a shame - it all looks so pretty!

justaweeone · 15/07/2021 21:07

It's not great
I'm a saddo that goes back to Rimmel for so much stuff m, especially 25 hour foundation and Asia lipstick CT dupe.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 15/07/2021 21:12

I have one CT pallete that I love and would buy again - Stoned Rose but the rest is meh!
Agree with Bobby Brown MAC and hour glass and rate all the stuff I have had from Beauty & the boutique

Nightlystroll · 15/07/2021 21:14

That's why I chose those 3 youtubers because they are pretty honest. Neither Jessica Braun or Zabrena rated it that highly. Pampered Wolf like quite a few things. There is so much drugstore makeup that is outstanding these days, I wouldn't waste money on CT.

morepizzapls · 15/07/2021 21:17

My mum uses bobbi brown and rates it so I might have a look at them instead! I think I was drawn into Charlotte Tilbury because the products and the social media pages are just stunning and it all looks so natural. I think also because I am red haired too I thought her stuff would suit me quite well!

OP posts:
SummaLuvin · 15/07/2021 21:23

I used to be head over heels for Charlotte Tilbury and still like alot of their products, there are still great ones in their range, but their more recent releases have been uninspiring and money grabs in my opinion.

Good
K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick - I have this in Hepburn Honey, and I really like it, flattering colour (on me) and nice satin finish. CT have run into a problem by marketing Pillow Talk as a universally flattering colour, something that doesn't exist, so now gets a lot of criticism because the people try it find it doesn't suit them, but that doesn't mean the formula is outright bad.

Airbrush Flawless Finish Pressed Powder - I adore this product, butter soft and sets my foundation without making my look cakey or completely flat.

Brushes - I have 3 eye brushes and a cheek brush of hers. My best brushes, super soft and wash well.

Beachstick - I don’t think she makes these anymore which is a shame, it was a lovely twist-up cream cheek and lip product. Great colour payoff, lasted nicely on the skin.

Instant Look in a Palette - they have do variations of these, mine has 3 eyeshadows, 2 small blushes, 1 large bronzer, 1 highlighter. I think it’s fantastic all colours are neutral so I use them all, and I think the quality is good, huge mirror too so great for travelling.

Bad
Brow Fix - the clear eyebrow gel, the claim there is no white cast and crustiness is true, but this really didn’t hold my brows in place, which is the whole point!

Legendary Lashes - this is a horrible mascara, looks great when you first apply it, then it just crumbles and transfers to my eyelids and cheeks within hours. I do have oily eyelids and skin, but I have never had this happen before or since.

Not for Me
Legendary Brows - tinted brow gel. This is a good product and did what it claimed, fluffed up and tinted brows, held them in place, and the tiny brush allowed me to be precise. But I have naturally thick eyebrows, and I don’t need to splurge on a product for my brows when they don’t need much help. I can see this being fantastic for someone with sparse or gappy brows.

Light Wonder Foundation - this was a nice product, a really lightweight natural looking foundation, however, not the best formula for my oily skin, probably good for someone with normal-dry skin.

Superstar Lips - the shiny finish lipstick. It’s not a bad product at all, but I don’t think this is an item you get value out of buying high end, really it was a mistake and could probably find something I would be just as happy with at boots. That being said I like the way it looks and feels on my lips, I will use up and won’t just toss.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 15/07/2021 21:26

The Flawless Filter is good and comes in lots of shades and tones. Lovely on its own or under foundation.

Hate the lipsticks.

Hourglass so beautiful make up.

Nightlystroll · 15/07/2021 21:26

Ooo @SummaLuvin. That's a phenomenal list. Very interesting. Thank you.

morepizzapls · 15/07/2021 21:37

I think I might try her pressed powder @SummaLuvin and see what I think, thanks for taking the time to write that! I struggle with powders, they either make me look cakey or have an orange tinge!

OP posts:
AprilLady · 15/07/2021 21:39

I have only tried lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes. I don’t rate the lipsticks, but really do rate the eyeshadow palettes.

They are easy to use, blend well, and last all day. I have the easy eye palette and the bejewelled eyes to hypnotise (one of the shades was a bit rubbish, but the rest have been great).

lolacola77 · 15/07/2021 21:40

Please don't. The stuff is overpriced shite!

elevenses75 · 15/07/2021 21:40

Bryony Blake on Instagram/Facebook is a makeup artist who works on this morning/strictly etc has her own pages and does demos using lots of different brands to give you an idea how they look on the skin.

I rate Bobbi brown and Chanel

Nightlystroll · 15/07/2021 21:54

For anyone who's looking for drugstore end products, No 7 Airbrush Away Translucent Finishing Powder is supposed to be a perfect dupe for CT Airbrush Flawless powder. Never tried it but just I'd let people know.
