Would anyone like to admire and comment on my knee dents?

Since January I have been really disciplined in my eating and exercising having previously been swinging wildly between bingeing and dieting and very inactive. I am disabled so exercising is tricky for me -I can't do high impact, running, exercise bike type exercise - so I have been doing a routine of yoga stretches and strength training at home. I've not lost masses of weight, about 8 kilos this year and 18 kilos altogether from my previous heaviest point, but I feel masses better and my fat clothes are now much too big.

I'm starting to notice differences in musculature now which is a completely new thing for me! I've been much slimmer before but have never had shapely arms and shoulders, for instance. My latest thing is I have noticed these indentations on the insides of my knees. Previously I had pads of fat there, and I don't remember ever having these dents even when about ten stone.

Anyway I just wanted to show off this small achievement, and to ask if you think the dents are to do with muscle development? I do 30 pretty deep squats and 25 split squats six days a week and have noticed my thighs are now quite hard when I tense them!

Thank you for listening to me. I don't really have anyone irl who I can show them off to. Smile

Ooooh look at the dents on you!

Seriously tho, fair play, I need to do more squats!

Hotpinkangel19 · 13/07/2021 09:33

Well done!!! Keep going! You're doing great!

Cowbells · 13/07/2021 09:37

They are fabulous. I have always wanted well shaped knees and remember being astonished the first time I saw (after a year of intensive training) little dents where I used to have pads of fat. Good work.

Pandora64 · 13/07/2021 09:41

Inspiring! They’re very nice.

Could you tell us a bit more about your routine? Do you follow a yoga programme online or do you go to a studio? Is your strength training with weights or just your own weight?

Fairyliz · 13/07/2021 09:43

Lovely pair of dents there op Grin

Liverbird77 · 13/07/2021 09:43

Brilliant! You're looking great!

ABitOfAShitShow · 13/07/2021 09:44

Fabulous dents, OP. Well done, you!

custardbear · 13/07/2021 09:45

Fabulous! I'm going to look out for these too as I've upped my exercise recently- unfortunately mine are convex at the moment 😋

Ohhelppp · 13/07/2021 09:45

That’s brilliant! I had no idea what you were talking about from the thread title, but I get it now Grin well done, OP! Keep going!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/07/2021 09:45

I can truly say I've never seen a finer set of knee dents!

cosmopolitanplease · 13/07/2021 10:14

Thank you all so much! Smile

I do the same yoga routine I've followed on and off for years - Yoga for Dummies (it's on YouTube I believe). I've got the dvd but know the moves off by heart so do it by myself now. I don't like following any routine on screen so I just watch someone on YouTube demonstrate an exercise and then put it in to my routine.

As well as the yoga stretches I do going up and down on tip toes for my ankle which I sprained badly a couple of years ago and range of motion exercises for my shoulder which had developed a painful contracture - both of which conditions I've been able to fix with exercise and time thankfully, but I keep them up just in case.

I do body weight exercises and also some arm exercises with a 2kg weight which I've built up from 1kg. I wish I could use heavier weights but my balance problems and hand weakness on one side make this perilous which is why I concentrate mainly on body weight moves.

I do high planks, elbow planks and side planks, and I really enjoy seeing my strength improve through them; at first I could only hold for a couple of seconds but now can hold for 20 seconds. I cannot do a press up however times I try as the effort sets off spasticity in my whole body but I do a simplified version which I find quite hard enough!

I do tricep dips on the edge of my bed, a variation of sit ups, ab crunches and bridges for my bum - last time I lost a lot of weight I was disappointed to see my bum disappear and droop but this time it seems to be staying up! I do the aforementioned squats and split squats.

I have added extra sets and repetitions to my routine as I've got stronger. When I started I was as weak as a kitten.

Thank you for listening! I really love strength training and wish I'd discovered it sooner, I was never an exercise person but it suits me perfectly. I haven't be in a gym for 30+ years; I don't drive and most gyms don't have equipment for disabled people so I've turned part of my bedroom into a gym instead, with jigsaw matting.

You have inspired me! I have both a rotten neurological disease and I've just had cancer and the effing menopause has started so I'm gaining pouches 😳.
I actually rolled out one of the the yoga matts (bought hopefully at the beginning of lockdown 🥴) and did some morning stretches!! 🙏

cosmopolitanplease · 14/07/2021 10:08

Hello @boshette! I'm happy to have inspired someone as I wish I had been inspired sooner!

I forgot to mention, I am 49 and have had MS for 18 years now, have underactive thyroid, am in peri menopause and take HRT. I had been feeling really fat, sluggish, weak and old. I'll never be an athlete but I feel soo much better now than I did.

I find it really helps me to have a pleasant environment for exercising, so I keep my exercise space as clear as possible and I have bird feeders outside the window that I look out of while exercising (I love watching nature Smile) and I listen to lovely podcasts and audiobooks while I exercise. I try to make exercising feel like a treat rather than a chore!

Fab, I've got them too, 49 also. Mine are from loads of walking, and my legs are the slimmest part of me so figures that they are best shaped. Just got to get upper body to match Grin, I really admire shapely shoulders and arms, probably because mine are slim but untoned.

Kanaloa · 14/07/2021 14:17

Congratulations! The best thing about a lifestyle change is noticing those little changes and feeling that sense or achievement. I would probably treat myself to a takeaway if it was me, which is why I don’t have shapely knees like yours!

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 14/07/2021 14:20

I now have dent envy Envy.

villainousbroodmare · 14/07/2021 14:22

cosmopolitanplease · 14/07/2021 14:29

Absolutely gorgeous knee dents OP - I would love a pair like that. Such a great story of self discipline and perseverance to go with them - I am feeling inspired too!! Genuinely thank you for sharing x

Pinknoise · 14/07/2021 14:43

I’ve never heard of knee dents and definitely haven’t got a pair myself. I want some now!

Thelikelylass · 14/07/2021 14:47

That's brilliant, well done but also the strength you are building will also make you feel like you have super powers, you've kickstarted me to get back to deal with my pain and lack of strength. Pray share your daily routine with me please OP! Thank you!

Horehound · 14/07/2021 14:49

Wtf is this all about??

Pandora64 · 14/07/2021 15:01

I’m also feeling inspired and will be googling yoga for dummies after work. I think it’s the fact that you’ve done this without a stupidly expensive bike or personal trainer etc- just simply and steadily.

Thank you.Smile

Thelikelylass · 14/07/2021 15:01

OP sorry I missed you other post showing your routine. Squats are great for building those quads, getting me kettle bell out again tonight!
