Please help a fat woman going out for cocktails with nothing to wear!

I am that fat woman.

I'm going out on Friday, my first night out anywhere since February 2020. A group of friends and I are going to a couple of fairly fancy cocktail bars (until 1am apparently).

All my 'going out' clothes are 3 sizes too small, I've no idea what to wear and I'm nearly 50. Have tried looking online but everything seems to be summer dresses, nothing evening-y?

Where do I even start looking? What do people wear on nights out now? My friends are all younger and thinner, I don't want to be the fat frump in the corner!

There are some great suggestions here. The only thing I wouldn't wear is the trainers. However, enjoy your night out.

How do you feel about something more fitted?, I lost 4 stone last yr. I found when I was a size 18 floaty things made me feel even worse. Simple black bodycon dress with sandels, wedges or white pumps. Denim jacket & some big earrings. Was and still is my go to
OP’s preference for “long floaty top” would also work if the trouser silhouette was slim. She says she prefers skin cut trousers so that works. No need to go full body con if you don’t feel comfortable like that.

Lots of good suggestions here. I agree with the “going for something more fitted”, so a dress that fits quite closely on the top and then skims your stomach or gives you a bit of waist definition before flaring out. Anna Scholz clothes are often available at a decent price on eBay.

Or yes to slim trousers and a floaty top, that would work well.

My sister is a size 18 and she always looks lovely in a midi skirt with a black or white top tucked in, denim jacket and ankle boots (but trainers or sandals would work!)

Blue Vanilla have a few reasonably priced dresses in their curve range. Most of them are a little drab, almost like you have to apologise for being overweight, but I like this one and it's available in your size

Sorry, I didn't post the link to the dress.
