Dungaree buckles - am I missing something here?

I’ve just got a pair of dungarees from Run and Fly. They look so good on and are the first pair I’ve tried that I love. The downside is there are no buttons at the sides and the buckles on the straps don’t have unclipable buckles. So as far as I can see every loo trip is going to mean unthread one strap to get them down. Unless I’m missing something and there’s an easy way to undo them. It’s going to be a real faff if they need un threading to take them down or off.

Can you wear them low enough/with the straps long enough that you can shrug the straps off for the loo? I do this for my kid at nursery so might not be the look you're after!

BajanB · 10/07/2021 18:25

Because I'm short (5') I need them fasten the straps quite a lot so the bib doesn't gape . I don't want to return them because theyre such a good fit.

I've got a few pairs of Carhartt ones for work with wide elastic as the last bit of the back straps, behind you, so you can wear them high but they stretch over and off without un fastening. Maybe a fix? Black thick wide elastic.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 18:42

Arthur. Thanks for that. I’d need to get it done professionally as my sewing skills are very basic. Though if I was going to get them altered I suppose I could ask for a stud and buckle fastening fitting.

I have several pairs of dungarees and am also 5 foot.
Are you saying you can't easily undo them?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 10/07/2021 18:49

I cannot really see the picture properly...are teh buckles like belt buckles? that's bollocks for dungarees!

You want the ones that snick/loop onto a button like a giant suspender thing from a suspender belt
You can buy them in knitting or sewing shops and just threat the straps through

thinking about it, those buckles look like the length adjusting ones on my dungarees and you fold the strap up into those and the clippy bit hangs at the bottom for the button on the bib.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 18:50

Ihavebrillohair. They’re not the clips where there’s a stud and you unclip the buckle by pulling it up off the stud. The only way I can get the off is to unthread the back strap from the buckle which is attached to the small strap on the bib

Laurie. There isn’t a button on the bib at all. I’ve not seen fastenings on dungarees like this before and I didn’t notice them on the website. If they weren’t such a good fit and so flattering they’d be going back.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 18:59

This is the pic off the website which shows the fastening clearer

I have a few pairs of run and fly dungarees and don’t need to unthread to pull them down. I can move one shoulder out and then just pull them down. Sometimes I need to tighten the strap after pulling them up but that’s not often.

Can’t you just loosen rather than unthread?

ArsenicNLace · 10/07/2021 19:08

Surely you just loosen the strap on each side and slip it off your shoulders:Confused

No need to fully unthread?!

BajanB · 10/07/2021 19:10

Arsenic and broccoli. I’ll try that thanks. I did ask if I’m missing something obvious as I don’t possess the best common sense

OP posts:
Lovemusic33 · 10/07/2021 19:22

I was going to start the exact same thread, thought maybe it was just me, I love my run and fly dungarees but I can’t get on with the straps 😭, I’m short so need them done up quite high but they just slip back down as soon as move.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 19:30

lovemusic. I need the straps done up high too. They only arrived today and I so want to keep them but they look like they're going to be annoying because of this daft buckle. Do you wear yours much or does it put you off

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 10/07/2021 19:32

That's a slide strap though. Like on a handbag strap? You slide the strap through it, but not all the way out, just enough to make it longer so it shrugs off the shoulder.

Are you pear shaped?

I'm a 16 pear shape, and would love some dungarees!

I have only had mine a couple weeks (bought 2 pairs), I have been wearing them at home today and have been getting angry with them. I have tried placing a hair clip under the buckle bit which helped a little. Like you, I’m in love with them as they are such a good fit compared to other dungarees, I think I will end up adapting them somehow 🤔
BajanB · 10/07/2021 19:48

I’m going to put them on and see if I can loosen them. Yes it’s like a handbag strap buckle pickle.

I’m a size 12/14 hourglass with biggish hips and chunky thighs and big boobs (32FF). These look absolutely lovely on (and I’ve tried loads - fatface, ASOS petite, Boden and Seasalt petite and looked awful in them. These make me look taller and at least a size smaller. I risked the XS and they’re perfect. Fitted but not tight or restrictive. It’s just the buckles I don’t like. And I wish there were buttons at least on one side.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 19:50

lovemusic. I’m going to have to either get the buckle changed for one with a clip and get a stud button put on the bib. They are amazingly flattering on me too which is why I also want to find a way round this. I showed them to my friend this afternoon and she said they looked really good on.

Just loosen the strap and push it down your shoulder

nordica · 10/07/2021 20:33

I have a couple of pairs of Run & Fly and it's really easy to just loosen the straps and slip them off your shoulders. I never undo them completely.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/07/2021 20:38

You can buy a set of proper dungaree clips from a haberdashery. No sewing required just a hammer.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 20:38

Nordica. I shall have a go thanks.

Loosening them isn’t the issue, the issue is them loosening themselves. Mine just loosen when I move.

I am the same size as you OP, size 12 with wide hips. I think I will have to fit a proper dungaree buckle/clip.

picklemewalnuts · 10/07/2021 21:13

Thanks for the fit information. I'll keep an eye on it.

BajanB · 10/07/2021 21:17

CaptainmyCaptain. Oh I’m sure I could do a bit of bashing with a hammer!
