Second day curls

Hi all. I’m looking for some recommendations on how to keep my hair curly the day after I wash it.

It naturally dries with a curl though for years I just brushed and dried it straight. Recently have started leaving it curly on the weekends so I put Cantu custard in when it’s sopping and scrunch and it eventually dries with a lovely wavy/slightly twisty curl minus the frizz. But after a night’s sleep it’s gone rogue again and I look like a bush so I tend to just pin it up on day 2.

Does anyone know how to “refresh” curls for the following day? Do I need to wet them again? I think I might try a silk pillow to minimise the overnight frizz factor but if anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it. Would love to be able to wear it curly mid-week but it takes too long to wash/dry in the mornings so if I could get away with reviving it it would save a lot of time!

Mine doesn't refresh well so I just protect it overnight and that works
I use a satin pillowcase and either pineapple it on my head of use a buff, when you take it out let it settle and it should look fine :)

I used to wear my curls in a pineapple whilst I slept. Then just refresh with water

Jessicurl Awe Inspiralling Spray is good for refreshing next day curls.

However since I've got a better curl routine going, adding loads of moisture to my hair (Ecoslay Banana Cream I love you), and sometimes protein, I find that even with products with less hold, my curls stay, the frizz is gone and I can refresh them just by wetting my hands with water and scrunching them through my hair.

Thanks allFlowers

Great tips. Will try the pillowcase and pineapple in the first instance!

To get good 2nd day hair you probably need a better wash day routine. Problem is that the only way to find the right one is experimenting.

For my hair I only wash it about every 5-7 days with a low sulphate shampoo then loads of conditioner, then use more conditio er as a leave in. Then get some of the mouisture out using hair wrap.
Then an oil such as argan oil then a gel like ECO.

Once dry I scrunch out the crunchiness.

I sleep with my hair in a pineapple 🍍 and then damp down with a little conditioner and sometimes gel every morning.

@EatingAllThePies wins the thread!

I do have to get a proper routine. Am only just starting so still tending to wash every 2 days and use shitey standard shampoos. Will do a bit of trial and error on the basics along with the other tips!

Lol it's a genuine suggestion! I'm 2 years in but after 1 year reverted to a shampoo about once a fortnight as I wasn't getting on well but my curls were better right at the start of my CG journey tbh probably because I spent more time on them. I think I've done so much trial and error and my fave stuff always gets discontinued! I use a mousse then a gel which gives me about 2 days of curls then I break out the lube on day 4!

🤣🤣🤣 Class. Totally trying it.
