What kind of tops do you wear with your Chinos? I usually wear jeans throughout the summer but have bought a few chinos from Next but am stumped on what to pair them with.

Shirts, polo shirts - could look a bit masculine if you are apple shaped.

Boat neck long sleeve t-shirts, breton-style tops, feminine or fitted shirt , body skimming little jumpers, etc ok

If you look on Pinterest under “women chino outfit” you’ll get tons of ideas… I’m personally a fan of white soft shirts and flat tan sandals or trainers but they can be more diverse than that depending on the cut ( wider? Full length or cropped etc)

@ILoveShula thank you so much, I think you described exactly where I am going wrong. I tried loose fitting shirts/tops and it was giving off a masculine vibe. I will have to try the fitted tops you recommended.

@Divebar2021 thank you, will try Pinterest to get more ideas. They are slim chinos from Next.

I like the loose shirt and chino look and think of Princess Di, but a female colleague who was quite appley wore it and it seemed mannish. It suited her and her personality (ex-military and in a same-sex relationship, she was great) but didn't look feminine.

Had a quick look but could only find Next tapered chinos, but the tops were t-shirts and shirts

I don't like the french tuck but if it works for you, fine., so suggest tucking the shirt in, unless you are busty or have a large waist.

If you are busty go for a skimming top, if you are an apple maybe shirt out but with a loose belt.

(my search took me to the M&S site for some reason and there are lots of nice outfits on it.)

Thank you again @ILoveShula, that's so helpful! Yes they are the tapered chinos I thought they were slim for some reason, the are fitted nicely and not loose. I am an hourglass so the skimming tops are better and I don't like the tuck either. I've just ordered a handful of tshirts and tops from M&S too, fingers crossed that they fit well and look ok with the chinos.

I like a Breton top and chinos. I am apple shaped and need to tick in a white shirt with a belt but then feel conscious of my tummy.

ILoveShula · 09/07/2021 13:39

I like breton tops but I'm an inverted triangle.
Whenever I attempt a stripy top I get told that my boobs look ginormous. I'm a 32C - obviously a freak and I don't know how I don't topple over Grin

The chinos are nice. I have some Gap Khakis in olive. Full length after I roll up the hems slightly and they suit me. Cropped trousers do nothing for me.Neither do loose trousers like the 1990s combats. They need to fit somewhere.
