Wedding guest outfit

A close relative is getting married next year. I know it's too early really to be looking for an outfit, but I thought I'd just see what's around and I found a dress I really like. I NEVER buy new clothes, only second hand so it's a big deal for me even though it's not an expensive dress! So I would love to get some opinions on it before I go for it. If I order it I'll inevitably end up keeping it even if it looks rubbish because I'm stupidly lazy.

I like the blue and the orange. Orange is out of my comfort zone but I think it's more striking and perhaps better for a summer wedding (which this is) but not sure if it's too garish or would suit my colouring. The blue I love but feels a bit safe.

I'm mid 30s, size 10-12 (will ideally be a definite 10 by then) 5ft 5, somewhere between hourglass and pear shaped. Ash blonde hair (balayage, so brown roots!) and brown eyes, fair skinned.

Does anyone have any opinion either way? Or is it a rubbish choice altogether and I should go for something entirely different?!

I think it’s lovely, for me it’s a bit bright and attention seeking but if you like strong colours go for It.

My SIL wore that colour orange to our wedding and looked awesome. I don't think it's attention seeking, if you can carry off that colour then go for it! (It wouldn't work with my colouring but sounds like it would with yours)

It's lovely! I love the colour

I love the orange colour, bright colours are great for summer weddings. Just be aware that you will probably stand out in pictures, but as long as you are comfortable with that then why not? I've coveted this dress but don't have anything to wear it to, the orange colour is part of the attraction www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/midi-dresses/product.mulberry-silk-halter-midi-dress-orange.0958625001.html?&utm_source=Karma&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=1&utm_content=10&utm_term=677934&ranMID=41994&ranEAID=fsARr/SVBGE&ranSiteID=fsARr_SVBGE-yzo.Qog41oC1AFJXhiZovA

Do you often wear that shape of dress? I'm hourglass/pear and hate silhouettes like that on me which skim the middle, I want to highlight my waist. Also worth noting that with this dress you would probably need a strapless bra/stickon bra/no bra, so think about if you are ok with that.

Thanks everyone. That is really helpful. I definitely do not want to look like I'm attention seeking. But I would like to look a bit glam I guess. Hadn't thought about the fact the dress might not be the right shape for me, I do tend to wear belts on looser fitting dresses which I don't think would look right on this one. I guess in my head I could totally pull of that colour and style, but the reality is probably quite different!

I really like the one you've linked to @SummaLuvin but I just always feel drab in that style of skirt, unless I wear with trainers, love it on other people though.

It's gorgeous! I have neither the figure nor the colouring for that dress, but you will be be beautiful and very elegant in it. The flowing style and lack of boobs/bum exposure also mean that you will be able to relax at the wedding, knowing you won't be caught in an unflattering pose.

StCharlotte · 08/07/2021 20:02

I love both colours but it's really weird - the orange doesn't look right for a wedding whereas the blue does. This is probably just me though! I hasten to add the second orange dress looks perfect for a summer wedding so it's certainly not the colour that's "wrong" for me. I can't put my finger on it.

Thank you all. I'm still undecided, as opinion seems pretty split! But there isn't anyone I can ask irl about this one, so it's been helpful.
