Please help me find clothes to suit my (life)style

So...I’m currently trying to sort my wardrobe and refine my style!

The clothes I feel great/happy/myself in = lovely vintage pieces (often patterned/floral/bright colours), and well/interestingly cut modern pieces (more tailored/lots of black/block colours. Ideally, I find a mix of the two works quite well for me, for example: a vintage Laura Ashley dress with nipped in waist, with a cropped boxy, black jacket and DM sandals. (I realise this may sound like a fashion offence to some, but each to their own!)

What I’m finding difficult at the moment is that I’m currently spending a lot of my time running around after my little children so have the problem (mentioned quite a bit on S&B) that my clothes don’t match my (current) lifestyle. Has anyone got any ideas/items that spring to kind that might work for my kind of style and lifestyle? Particularly interested in what I could get that might fit into the t-shirt/sweatshirt/hoody bracket but fit with my style aesthetic(?). I don’t want to wear my very best clothes to look after my little people, but would love to still look (my kind of) stylish...at the moment I think I look like Anna Maxwell-Martin’s character in ‘Motherland’ (and nothing wrong with her or her character/style, but it isn’t ‘me’).

Looking forward to some suggestions and TIA! 😊🤞🏼

Someone did an AMA recently who was a stylist and gave really good advice. If you search that section you could find it and post and tag her

Some ideas to ponder:

  • Oversized vintage shirt, leggings, DM sandals
  • Vintage t-shirt, denim shorts, plimsolls
  • Shortish vintage dress, cycling shorts, boots

Thank you for the suggestions so far.
@Hottesttrikeintown, what section would I find the AMA in, please? @thedevilinablackdress, will definitely try your first idea. 😊 Unfortunately, I’m not a shorts person (unsightly veins on my legs despite being very slim 😔).

Will you wear trousers ?
Ankle length wide trousers with a vintage blouse and your DM sandles.
Cigarette or pleated wide leg trousers also have that vintage look.
You can get jeans in these cuts as well.
Round neck short puffed short sleeved light knit tops would look good.
How about cardigan and matching vest top rather than hoody in floral or block colours ?

I used to be the same OP. The veins haven't got any better, but approaching 50, I care about it less. I might not wear shorts to go out for lunch with friends or something. But general day to day, absolutely.
