I really loved the soapnuts bars but it's been difficult to buy them for ages now. They used to do a sample set of all 6 varieties, each tiny bar was about the size of half a matchbox each, for 3 or 4 pound. No longer do it which is a shame as the full sized bars are really expensive. But if you can afford it they're great.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2021 19:36

Has anybody tried the L'Occitane bars?

user1477249785 · 06/07/2021 19:38

I'm a big fan of the ethique ones and I love the carry case you can get to store them in.

lazylinguist · 06/07/2021 19:54

My favourites are Bain & Savon ones, and they are more reasonably priced than most too!

careerchangeperhaps · 06/07/2021 20:39

I love Grüm - the only ones I've found that lather as well as liquid shampoo.

Amdone123 · 06/07/2021 20:42

I've used the Lush ones when I went on holiday ( many moons ago). I only have short hair. Easier than lugging bottles of shampoo ( can go through security etc).

PositiveLife · 06/07/2021 20:45

I got a lush one recently and am converted Smile

dinodiva · 06/07/2021 21:04

I’m currently using a L’Occitaine one. I like it so far - it lathers up better than any other I’ve tried. I’m yet to be utterly convinced that bar shampoo is (as a cleansing product) better than liquid, but that might be just my ridiculously bushy hair.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 06/07/2021 21:04

Yes to little blue hen 😁 The best shampoo bars, and palm oil free.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 06/07/2021 21:08

Those who recommend the L'Occitaine bar, does it leave a residue or leave your hair greasy? I have tried two bars and my hair feels rank afterwards. A bar user said I'm probably using too much but there's literally no lather coming out of it!

Aniseeeds · 06/07/2021 21:16

Currently using the Nuddy ultra volume one which smells lovely and my hair feels great! I have had a water softener installed so wanted to switch to a shampoo bar.

Brizzle1991 · 06/07/2021 21:24

Dolores & Rose are my favourite ones. Handmade by a couple of lovely ladies in Yorkshire since 2019 and already they have won awards and high commendations. The conditioner is amazing

Oooh some interesting brands here I've not heard of, I'll look for those.

Currently finishing up some Ethique bars which I feel are v expensive cost per wash plus - and I know this is just what soap does, but it still pisses me off at £12 a time without an offer, and yes I keep it in its little lidded box away from the water flow - they start to crumble easily when they get smaller and the little bits are impossible to use I got in touch with them to have a moan and they helpfully suggested I get one of those weird boxes to store your scarf ends of soap on to eventually make a whole bar Confused Reminds me of having a bath at my nana as a kid with her dodgy soap.

TBF they also gave me a few samples to say sorry but I think I'll try or some cheaper brands. Have an Eco Warrior one (£4 from Sainsbury's) waiting in the wings.

Anyway I sound like a right moaning Minnie OP, apologies. My hair seems to like bar soap so that's a plus.

dinodiva · 06/07/2021 21:33

@DontBuyANewMumCashmere I know what you mean about residue - I had a Faith in Nature one that was just horrid, I was disappointed as I generally like their stuff.

The L’Occitane one has been okay but I did notice a bit of a residue after a few washes - not sure if that’s to do with other products I’ve been using, or if I didn’t rinse properly (my hair is super thick) so am giving it the benefit of the doubt! I’m sure I read somewhere that it’s a common prob with shampoo bars, but I can’t remember the detail!

BlackSwan · 06/07/2021 21:35

I don’t know how anyone sets foot in Lush. The shops reek.

teawamutu · 06/07/2021 21:35

Another vote for Gruum - the coconut bar is lush.

Foamie conditioner bar also VG, only one that actually makes my hair soft.

cleowasmycat · 06/07/2021 21:40

Don't they make a mess?

SusannaM · 06/07/2021 21:41

How do they work with dyed hair? I tried when they first became a thing a few years ago, but they stripped my semi permanent colour horribly and turned my hair to straw.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 06/07/2021 21:44

cleo not in the shower area no and actually are easy to use.

I have noticed however that when I take the plug bit out of my shower drain to clean it - a grim job - there seems to be more soap residue.

CambsAlways · 06/07/2021 21:44

BlackSwan I know what you mean I’m in and out faster than the speed of sound too overpowering for me, grab my shampoo bars pay and zoom out

OP posts:
dgirluk · 07/07/2021 08:16

@SusannaM I have Gruum and while they're fine, they stripped the colour out of my hair :( (semi-permanent pink which usually lasts for 3 months, although faded, pretty. much went overnight).

Thirtyrock39 · 07/07/2021 08:19

I tried one recently from lush that made my hair look really good and shiny but my scalp felt itchy and went quite flaky - anyone know a shampoo bar that works for problem scalps/ dandruff? I usually have to use head and shoulders but would like to move away from plastic bottles

KirstenBlest · 07/07/2021 15:51

I've only tried the ethique one and gave some to relatives,
All reports positive.
