Shoes to go with this dress?

I've got this dress that I'll be wearing to a couple of 'events' this year. Once to a wedding, and at least once into London (will need to take the train in and walk a small amount).

I'm thinking of possibly a gold or a black shoe. But not opposed to silver or nude either if it looks ok. I am quite petite and fine boned - so skinny ankles. Nothing too chunky. I'd like a medium to higher heel (probably on the higher side) because I'm only 5'4. The first thing that came to mind was a black or gold heeled strappy sandal with a toe strap about 1-1.5cm wide and an ankle strap. There is not a lot of space between my ankle and the bottom of the dress so I'm wondering if there is a sling back option that means my ankle won't look chopped off with the ankle strap. Can anyone think of any?

Also open to any other suggestions!!

Bonus points for suggesting a handbag as well. Would like to keep the costs down if possible. £120ish give or take for the shoes. Also open to pictures above that rand just for style inspo.

Thanks!

On reflection I am looking at the dress and the stylist chose a closed in shoe .... also your point about not having an ankle strap to cut your height close to the end of the dress.

These are in loads of colours and are a nod to a Manolo Blahnik version this season:

If you want an open toe but are not sure you want an ankle strap maybe a strappy mule would work? There are loads about at the moment. Maybe something like this?

Or these from Reiss are stunning but do have a slim ankle strap www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/reiss/hayden-heeled-sandals-234911?google#colcode=23491115

Every dress on the Self Portrait website is styled with the same closed-in shoes

Black to a wedding?! Noooooo.

CaraherEIL · 06/07/2021 22:25

I think the dress is stunning, I would wear with a muted gold shoe and bag.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. Not found anything that's perfect for me yet.

I do agree with the Forest green shoes giving off more of a wintery vibe.

I'm open time another colour and scoured the web for fuchsia, purple, and teal yesterday but haven't seen anything. I still want an open toe as I find them easier to walk and stand in for long amounts of time because my toes won't be smooshed into a pointed closed toe.

If I could find one a similar shape / style to the green ones or the nude ones I posted that would be amazing. I want to keep it simple so it doesn't compete with the pattern of the dress.

So far I've looked at Selfridges, Fenwick, House of Fraser, John Lewis, Very, Dune, Asos, Kurt Geiger, Zara. Mango, LK Bennett Aldo and a few more I can't remember.

What does everyone think of these? Would this colour work? I know it's suede, but I do like the colour. I'll pop the dress back in as a reminder.

On a side note, does anyone own a pair of these Gianvito Rossi Portofino 105 Sandals? Are they comfy?

Or these? But are they a bit out of style now? My friend is selling hers. She's only worn them once.

Love these - colour is lovely.

Thanks @Sssloou

I'm worried the colour may be too light and look a hit strange. I'd need to find a complimentary bag if I went with those. Also worried they might be a bit high for me to be tottering around London in all night. But I do love them

Personally I would go rock chick and choose a biker boot or DMs - maybe velvet ones. So sassy. I wore black lace to a friend's wedding although it had a bluey,/lilac underdress/slip which showed some colour through. I checked with the bride first and she was very happy with it. There were other women at the wedding wearing black too.

Thanks for the thought, but that is so not my style. I think if people saw me wearing that they'd think I was having some kind of mid-life crisis. I dress very feminine and classy. I'm sure some would describe me as a bit too "prim" or twee looking. I bought the light purple heels, but think I'll probably go for some similar ones in black with a chunkier heel that I already own as it will be better for walking around. I'll wear the purple ones with another dress out to dinner in a few weeks
