Hair help please! Long and thick - what cut to ask for?

Hello, I have long thick wavy hair (bra strap length) and it needs a cut but I don’t know what to ask for. When I was younger I used to have layers and they’d use razors which thinned it out perfectly but for some reason I cannot get any hairdresser to use razors anymore.

My main issue is that when it grows it grows outwards and the weight of it makes the top part look very flat. But I have the type of waves that don’t look nice, I have to straighten my hair for it to look ok (I can’t curl my hair either it looks awful).

So I presume I need layers but I find the shorter my hair the more it sticks out and I really just want nice long, straight hair that looks like it’s in good condition.

Can anyone tell me what type of layers I need to ask for that keeps the length but doesn’t drag my hair down? Ideally low maintenance (I don’t use my straighteners nearly as much these days and most days it goes in a ponytail but short/lob length hair just doesn’t suit me).

Thanks!

Ask for it to be thinned out , they should use thinning scissors. Works a treat.

I’ve had them use thinning scissors before but I seem to remember the shorter ends sticking out and eventually it all appeared to grow back! But maybe I will give that another go. My hair is so weird it seems to grow at the ends in thickness regardless of what cut I get. Maybe I should get more regular trims…

Find a haidresser who knows how to cut wavy hair.

If it's sliced into and deep cut then thinned with scissors it'll be fine. Sounds like you need a better hairdresser.

Your hair sounds like mine. Let me know when you figure it out Grin

My hair is the same. Finding a hairdresser that understands is my life quest. I'm 43. 😱
