Outfit for an outdoor wedding party

I’ll be attending a friend’s wedding party to be held outdoors in a field of some sort. The invite says to wear something comfortable as the paths can get muddy sometimes. It’s a small affair with close family and friends but I’d still like to wear something flattering but comfortable to last through the evening. What kind of outfit and shoes would you suggest?

For shoes I'd probably get something inexpensive so it doesn't matter if they get ruined. Maybe wedges do they don't sink in (bringing back memories of wearing heels to a drinks party in Lincoln's Inn Fields and sinking in the grass whilst chatting to some eminent lawyers Grin).

Where and when? Surrey in August? Inverness in October?. Is there a marquee or anything or is it literally outdoors on the grass whole time? What the setup?

Cropped trousers or skirt no longer than mid-calf to avoid muddy hems. I would probably wear a tunic with matching trousers (eg slightly Indian style with embroidery) and colourful canvas pumps/trainers.

It’s in Buckinghamshire, believe there will be a marquee set up in July, don’t know much else. Would a midi dress work? I have my eye on this one

Love the dress. Wear wedges and not heels though!

I’d get a nice jumpsuit and metallic birkies, but that’s a lot more my style than formal wedding attire anyway.
