If you could only wear one perfume for the rest of your life.....

What would it be?

For me, Jo Malone's lime, basil and mandarin. I smell it and it immediately takes me back to hot summer holidays in the Caribbean.....

However. If I started this thread in the winter I'd say chanel coco Grin

Which just demonstrates the impossibility of just choosing one perfume forever, doesn't it!

Calyx by Prescriptives.

Benvolio · 04/07/2021 05:25

Shem-el-Nessim by Grossmith (only tried once,) OR L'heure Bleue. But an old one. The latest L'heure Bleue I smelled was totally chapened and all the depth stripped out 😞

Roseyleaf · 04/07/2021 07:18

I have loads of perfumes, but if I had to choose one it would be Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely.

ablutiions · 04/07/2021 07:24

Chanel No5.

StillCalmX · 04/07/2021 07:31

It's funny to read some of the most disgusting perfumes on this list. Not going to name them but it makes me wonder if the bottle I was given had gone off.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 07:31

Choco Musk by Al Rehab. It's the cheapest perfume I've ever worn but also the most gorgeous. I wear it every day and it's the only perfume I've ever worn that strangers have commented on. My favourite was a child on a bus who told me I smelled like his 'mam's Christmas biscuits'. It's straight up milk chocolate, vanilla, musk and sandalwood and it's £2 for 6ml of oil.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 07:34

@thegreylady

Does anyone know where I can but Chanel No 5 reasonably? Dd would love to try it. She has a birthday coming up but I can’t find it under 3 figures.
Coty L'aimant is a fraction of the price and is very similar. It's not a dupe, though - it's older than No. 5 and of anything Chanel copied Coty! I prefer it to Chanel, it's softer and more powdery, but it doesn't have the cachet of Chanel I suppose. Definitely had vintage cachet however!

I find this one hard, my favourites change and I like mixing things up.
At the moment I think cuir de russie.

(Predictive text said cuir de Rushdie 🤢 no thanks)

Alltheprettyseahorses · 04/07/2021 08:03

Cerruti 1881 atm.

Lost favourites are M&S Island Escape and Estee Lauder Beautiful Sheer.

StillCalmX · 04/07/2021 08:11

I like that cerutti, it's like ck one for me, mightn't ever be my favourite but it's so fresh and clean.
if i'm in a slump and need to tidy up I shower and put on ck one. cerutti 1881 would have the same effect!

Memoirs of a Trespasser

Tittybiscuit · 04/07/2021 09:18

If discontinuation wasn't an issue it would be La Belle De Ricci by Nina Ricci... swirly green bottle with a shiny pink top... wore it to death when I was younger.
I did manage to find a similar fragrance called 'In Love' by YSL, but its not quite the same

For now though, DNKY woman is always a good one, as is SJP Lovely.

thegreylady · 04/07/2021 09:31

I can only buy Wrappings from Harrods mail order. It smells right so assume it is the original.

Try John Lewis. I got a small bottle for my daughter to try, for,Christmas for about £60. Unfortunately she likes it and is now determined to work her way through all Chanel perfumes!

Despite loving LBM s much. I put on some coco this morning and realised that I couldn't not wear it. And then there's Chanel no5, coco noir, black opium, peony and blush suede, dark amber and ginger lily, amber and lavender and blackberry and bay......and realised I'm just a perfume tart Grin

But it's all subjective! I hate jasmine with a passion because if you put it on my skin you get cat wee. On others it smells lovely I lean towards clean perfumes or ones with salt, or skin type. Adore womanity but other people think it's vile
KimikosNightmare · 04/07/2021 11:30

24 Faubourg Hermès.

FreekStar2 · 04/07/2021 11:44

Estee Lauder Private Collection (the old version not the Tuberose Gardenia one)

Puffalicious · 04/07/2021 11:59

OMG! I had a perfume years ago that smelled of pure cat wee on me! For the life of me can't remember it's name, my sister used to wear it- and it was horrificly like cat's wee on me. Everyone thought I was mad. It must have been jasmine, then! Thanks for solving that.

NotMyCat · 04/07/2021 12:04

@Puffalicious the worst combo on me is jasmine and ylang ylang. My friend said I was being ridiculous, then sniffed me and recoiled

Buggerthebotox · 04/07/2021 12:40

@Puffalicious my mother used to use Worth Je Reviens. Catspee in a bottle. Grin

Puffalicious · 04/07/2021 12:49

So funny that I wasn't mad!!! I was labelled a drama queen!

On a related note, my colleague wears a perfume that I find completely repulsive. I keep trying to figure out what it is, but knowing her it'll be expensive. I suppose she must think it smells divine. It blows mind that our olfactory senses are all so different!

Gatekeeper · 04/07/2021 13:11

@Puffalicious , I used to work with a woman many years ago that wore a perfume by Charles of The Ritz...it smelled like vomit to me

derailment · 04/07/2021 13:31

It would be Jo Malone Peony Blush Suede but it can't be because it doesn't last half the day even if you do layer it with the body wash and moisturiser!

So I will go for Chanel Mademoiselle.

MisiaMisia · 04/07/2021 13:50

Sisley Izia

JMAngel1 · 04/07/2021 13:53

So so hard.
If I could have two it would be Light Blue for Summer and Narcisso Rodriguez for her EDT for Autimn/Winter. Actually come to think of it I’d need a third for Spring as Light Blue is too much for Spring - for my Spring fragrances I’m a bit of a whore and flit between Hermes Twilly, Chanel Chance, Allure and Agent Provacateur Maitresse.

But if I can only have one, it would be Chanel Chance as I can wear it all year round (but I prefer LB and NR Grin)
