I look so old! What to do about my eyes?

Sitting in the hairdressers today staring at my face in the mirror with a mask on, I realised that my eyes really age me. I’ve never used any anti-aging product and don’t have a clue where to start.
Please help.

I was being honest? I was genuinely shocked when she said her age, it is ageing to have skin like that under your eyes.

Falafell · 02/07/2021 22:09

The advice I would offer is to look after your skin from a young age, if you neglect yourself this is what will happen.

SoapboxFox · 02/07/2021 22:10

Try Elizabeth Arden ceramide capsules Smile

Ipreferwinter · 02/07/2021 22:11

OP please ignore the very few nasty mean spirited comments by those seeking to make themselves feel better at your expense.

They are just displaying their own insecurities.

howrudeforme · 02/07/2021 22:15

I’m like in that I don’t use a mirror much. I also wear specs and they hide wrinkles.

Op you’ve got beautiful shaped eyes. I love dark eyes and yours are lovely,

Wrinkles are normal - try and get your eyebrows shaped to suit your eye shape. Then learn how to do yourself.

Janaih · 02/07/2021 22:15

I think you have lovely eyes OP and decent eyebrows. And from what I can see of it your hair looks nice and thick. You don't look older than you are at all!

Falafell · 02/07/2021 22:16

I've no insecurities about my skin or looks, I'm happy to grow older, I posted the picture of myself just to show that not everyone looks like that in their early or mid 40s. I was just trying to show the difference between taking care of yourself and not doing so. I think if you put a photo of yourself online and ask for opinions not everyone is going to have the same point of view.

NotMyCat · 02/07/2021 22:18

I use the verso super eye cream which is a retinol one and it's made a big difference to the line under my eyes!
I think sleep, water and if you've got stuff like allergies/hayfever too and not eating too much salt can all affect it, sometimes health issues can cause puffiness, I always get puffy under my eyes when I'm due my antihistamines Grin

Don’t worry about it. I appreciate all the advice and the kind remarks. I’m not bothered about one persons opinion.

OP asked for suggestions on what could help her feel better about her perfectly lovely eyes. Not a one-upmanship competition.

You clearly do need to get some form of validation otherwise you wouldn't have posted a (very oily looking) photo and pulled another woman down by talking about how great you look.

TickledOnion · 02/07/2021 22:20

To be fair I wasn’t asking for opinions on how old I look. I was just after advice b

OP - your eyes are a gorgeous colour and they look naturally pretty. If you want some suggestions for what you could do differently I’d echo what others have said - some mascara and eyelash curlers could open your eyes a bit, as would a professional eyebrow shaping. I’d also use an eye cream to moisture a bit.

I’m not keen on the fake ‘eyelashes/eyebrows/filler’ look and I suspect you’re not either, so I’d tend to ignore those posts.

I’d definitely ignore Falafell who appears to have neglected her ability to be kind in favour of her skin.

Ok, but the way you did it is designed to make the OP feel shit. You did it in a gloaty way and then when called out, you doubled down and got arsey. Just no need.
NotMyCat · 02/07/2021 22:21

Found it! This is after about 10 months of using the Verso eye cream, you can see the line has shortened (after pic on the right)
It's not dramatic but I do forget to use it some nights
@SalsaLove

Because ageing isn't an illness.

And people do look weird with Botox and fillers, they don't look 'younger' or 'fresher' they look like someone the same age who has had 'work' done.
I think this is true to some extent and you definitely can overdo it and look bad, but there are probably a lot of women walking about who haven’t overdone it so you don’t notice them - so your perception of Botox/fillers is skewed by the worst examples. A small amount of Botox in a frown line will completely soften it, and there is no need to over do it to freeze the face and create the weird look that can happen. Similarly, 1 ml or less of filler isn’t really very noticeable, the examples that look bad are too much filler too often. The UK is very bad for the overdone look.

Janaih · 02/07/2021 22:23

How about one without makeup ay @Falafell ?

Forstarters · 02/07/2021 22:23

Botox will sort out the deep eyebrow crease lines. Ignore those here wailing here about the horrors of it - having properly done Botox should not be immediately noticeable but just looks fresher and should make you feel better. Like having your hair cut and dyed. When I had it no-one noticed apart from to say I looked good/ fresh/ not tired!

Falafell · 02/07/2021 22:23

So it's okay to insult my skin? That's not being kind either. I have oily skin made worse by the light off phone, so what.

Forstarters · 02/07/2021 22:25

@NotMyCat you look lovely but both pics look exactly the same. Eye creams and topical treatments don’t do much…

Millionaireinthemaking · 02/07/2021 22:25

I don’t think there is anything really wrong with your eyes?! You could get maybe a lash lift and tint so they stand out more 🙂

howrudeforme · 02/07/2021 22:26

@Falafell - you appear to be very light in skin tone. The Op has much darker skin which is prone to fewer but deeper wrinkles. You have a a thinner skin with little wrinkles - all normal,

I’m in my 50s - all my wrinkles are due to wearing specs and squinting in daylight.

Op has beautiful eyes and should draw attention to them. I’m not at all shocked at her age. Looks normal.

Chewbecca · 02/07/2021 22:27

A little moisturiser, an eyebrow tidy, some mascara and a smile would transform your eye area with minimal hassle.

@Forstarters it's so hard to see! I promise the line has lessened Grin
Tretinoin has been a game changer for the rest of my skin but my eyes are sensitive so I went for a specific retinol eye cream
Need to do some more pics and use it consistently and see in another 6 months

Falafell · 02/07/2021 22:30

@Wishmeluck99 I'm not your mate thanks.
