I look so old! What to do about my eyes?

Sitting in the hairdressers today staring at my face in the mirror with a mask on, I realised that my eyes really age me. I’ve never used any anti-aging product and don’t have a clue where to start.
Please help.

I know I need to sort out my wonky eyebrows.

I’m no expert, but have you got dry skin too? I use some nivea under eye cream and it seems to moisturise and plump the lines out a bit.

cherrytreecottage · 02/07/2021 15:31

I'm no skincare expert but would highly recommend Rodial Banana or Peach Lowlighter which is brilliant for brightening the under eye. You can use it with or without make up.

How's your diet?

BusterGonad · 02/07/2021 15:55

How old actually are you, if you don't mind me asking.
I have extreamly dry under eyes, to the point that they can look awful, especially after crying. I use Sebamed baby cream extra soft in the tube. You can get it on ebay. It's very rich, very greasy but does the trick. I think it's the pH 5.5 or just the soothing ingredients. I use it all over twice a day. It makes me glow.

Start using a retinol and a moisturising eye cream dry skin can make wrinkles look worse and always wear spf.

TickledOnion · 02/07/2021 17:36

To answer some of your questions. I’m 43. I don’t tend to look in the mirror very often so I forget how old I look.
My diet isn’t great. I eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink lots of water. But I also eat plenty of carbs, sugar and processed food. I basically just eat a lot of everything.
My skin is a bit dry. I’ll definitely look for a moisturising eye cream.
I don’t really wear spf unless I’m on holiday. I’ll try to change that.
Thanks everyone for the help.

TickledOnion do you smoke? If so stopping will make the biggest difference.

Do you get enough sleep? If not there's probably a good reason and its hard to resolve, but getting enough sleep will make the biggest difference if you're a non smoker.

Are you underweight or very slim? Once over 40 not having much fat can really make wrinkles worse - again probably not the simplest thing to do anything about if its your natural state or you value being very slim more highly than being unwrinkled!

I don't honestly believe lotions and potions do much compared to those three things tbh.

I’ve just starting using this by niod and I really recommend it. My eyes are definitely looking older than the rest of my face and while it hasn’t worked miracles I do think it’s improved my eye area more than any of the other eye creams and serums I’ve tried. www.lookfantastic.com/niod-fractionated-eye-contour-concentrate-serum-15ml/11173731.html

TickledOnion · 02/07/2021 17:47

I don’t smoke and I’m not underweight, I’m slightly overweight. Oh dear, this isn’t looking good. I probably don’t get enough sleep so I could improve that.

Have you tried My Perfect Eyes? The effect is astonishing but it's only temporary.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 02/07/2021 17:54

The only thing that's made a significant difference to my under-eye area is tear trough filler. It was amazing & I've tried so many concealers & eye creams.

AnaViaSalamanca · 02/07/2021 17:58

I think you have very beautiful and expressive eyes actually. Your eyebrows are ageing. If you improve your eyebrows and wear some concealer and curl your eyelashes and wear some mascara you will see a world of difference.

TickledOnion · 02/07/2021 18:04

That’s such a lovely thing to say @AnaViaSalamanca, thank you.

How can we tell if we don't know your actual age ? Do you use moisturiser? Eye cream ? Anything? Drink much water ? Etc

Ipreferwinter · 02/07/2021 18:23

You look fine, you look your age.

Nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with that please don't fall foul to the nonsense that tells you you need to angst over it.

Your eyes are a lovely shape and colour and you seem like you have an expressive, friendly face.

There's no magic elixir other than enjoying life.

sleepismyhobby · 02/07/2021 18:24

She's 43 if you read the thread Hmm
My eyes are aging due to doing constant nightshift. I used a body shop drops of youth eye gel really good. A bit pricey but I got a free sample before I bought it

I agree - you have beautiful eyes. I think it’s odd when we just look at our eyes (when wearing masks) without being able to see the rest of the face.
TickledOnion · 02/07/2021 18:55

Thanks for the compliments. I wasn’t fishing for them but it has made me feel better.

How much water do you drink?

TickledOnion · 02/07/2021 19:02

Probably drink at least 4 pints of water a day. But I eat enough other crap to cancel it out Blush.

Hi @TickledOnion I think you look great! If it helps, I had botox to get rid of those 11 lines in between the eyebrows and to remove the crows feet that were beginning to form around the eyes. I also have eyelash extensions and I use an eye cream every morning and evening, with spf daily. I also had some massive freckles under my eye removed that I hated. I drink at least 2 litres of water and follow a mostly vegan diet due to cholesterol issues. I'm 40. This is me without makeup and no filters. I have naturally thin skin under the eyes so would have to use make up to cover the dark colours.

I look so old! What to do about my eyes?
Ipreferwinter · 02/07/2021 19:18

Whatever you do, don't get Botox. It just makes people look eerie in real life (photos are a different beast).

Backthewaywecame · 02/07/2021 19:20

Do you ever wear eye make up? I always wear mascara and eyeliner on the top lash line and it detracts from the bags in my case.

RedLemon · 02/07/2021 19:24

Agree with PPs you have beautiful eyes! I’d say get the eyebrows shaped a little- if you lift that arch it could work wonders!

After that, embrace it. You look great! A little bit of crinkliness is a sign of laughter and a life being lived well!
