What to do with horrible, fine, flat, bla hair?

What would you do with this? I hate my hair, I just don't know what to do with it anymore. Having it cut next week. It's just stringy nothingness.

I have this hair. I go for style and condition rather than volume.

My mil uses a halo hair extension. It’s like a hair band thin as fishing wire with hair on it. It’s light and comfortable and she can remove it whenever she wants. She made her own using a YouTube video. Maybe something to consider as it’s not the expense or faff of real extensions.

Echo what PPs said about keeping it all one length. Definitely no layers!
Experiment with up styles? Half pleats, french pleats, buns etc. It looks lovely down though.
I use non-stripping shampoos which I find makes the hair look thicker. I'm using one at the moment which is just made of oils and salt! It works really well, nice clean hair, gets greasy less quickly, and hair is less slippery or something so it sort of stands out more and looks thicker I think. It doesn't get products out of your hair though, so if you use anything with silicone in it it wouldn't work.
Also I think letting your hair dry naturally gives it a bit more bounce, especially if you rough it up with your fingers after you arrange your parting, so it isn't all combed flat.

AndeanMountainCat · 02/07/2021 17:52

I think your hair looks lovely as it is. Really good condition.

If you are looking for volume, try Tigi Queen for a Day spray on damp roots then blow dry with a round brush. Also using a waving tong to add movement. Keep ends blunt- no layers. In between washes a dry shampoo like Living Proof works wonders on my flat hair.

I have similar hair but also much less of it. I tried extensions but I couldn't hide the clips. I agree - no layers. Hairdressers love them but they don't work on fine hair. It just looks broken.

Cam22 · 02/07/2021 20:54

I also like your hair just as it is. It looks pretty and shiny.

Bloomingwild282 · 02/07/2021 21:07

Thankyou Cam.

Thanks for all the product suggestions, always worth a try so I'll work my way through them!

Blimey OP, if that’s your hair after illness/chemo you’re doing well! I think it looks really lovely and in great condition - I wish mine looked like that (mine is also v fine but horribly frizzy and prematurely grey, which is a fate you seem to have avoided!)

ElizabethTudor · 04/07/2021 13:33

I use a thickening mousse after washing.
Got this one recently which is good.

I then backcomb my roots a bit and use a root powder:

Then don’t wash your hair every day. Use a dry shampoo. That definitely helps with a bit of extra oomph.

And how about chopping a couple of inches off the length and adding a fringe. I’ve done this before and it gives a sharper look.

Literarydevice · 04/07/2021 14:01

It looks lovely. I’d just go for a blunt bob. Mines much finer and thin and it’s in a collarbone length blunt bob and it’s The best it’s ever looked,

Bloomingwild282 · 04/07/2021 21:57

Yes I think I'll stick with a blunt bob.

I tried some of the suggestions yesterday. So I washed it last night but didn't brush it, just gathered it loosely on top of my head and slept with it up. Straightened and added a bit of dry shampoo this morning. I've got some volume at the root but I've lost the shine and smoothness. I'm not sure which I prefer really

I love it like that op!

Henrysmycat · 05/07/2021 12:13

Wow! That’s some beautiful hair. Might not be neo-baroque insta big but it’s a lovely colour, condition and shine. A bit of a trim on the end to sharpen them.
I love them. I’m thinking of lobbing off mine for a nice long bob like yours.

Ohbeeryme · 06/07/2021 19:09

I like the first pic and love the second. I would keep it blunt, get an inch off and not get it shorter at the back. It’s more ‘in’ to have it the same length front and back

SummerHouse · 06/07/2021 19:16

You look fab! Love your hair in both pics. Have you considered a fringe?

Cam22 · 06/07/2021 19:20

No to a fringe!

Spaceash · 06/07/2021 20:37

I have fairly fine hair. My last cut really made it look thicker, it was chin length, no layers, but I think they called it feathering the ends.
