Joules sizes

Are joules sizes a true size or do they come up to small / generous? I'm a really odd shape at the minute I think and can be anything from a small in h&m right up to a new look 14. I've seen some trousers but just not sure what size to order!

I'm not much of a Joules person or New Look, but I'd say New Look tends to be smallish and Joules slightly generous.

Both shops are ones that sometimes have gems.
