As I've got to my mid 40s my skin has become increasingly sun sensitive and I now have some noticeable patching on my forehead. This is despite wearing a good SPF50 daily since I was in my 20s, and I also use retin-A. I am not sure it is hormonal. I have tried several serums etc including vitamin C, but no results as yet. I've included a picture - it really is horrible.

I think you will need to see your GP for a diagnosis - it could be a number of things. I have vitiligo and it looks a bit like this, but that's not to say that you have the same thing. It would be unwise to rely on the internet for advise on this one.

Vitiligo is white patches appearing whereas hyper pigmentation is dark patches, so it won’t be vitiligo if the new patches are dark, but it probably is if it’s pigmentation disappearing, leaving dark patches remaining

See a GP. Depends on what your usual skin type is.
