Stuck in a jeans rut

I really need some new jeans. I weaned myself off skinnies in the spring and bought some 'slim' jeans from fat face. They are basically skinny jeans but looser on the calves. I like them but they aren't a bit departure from the skinnies.

I really like the mum jeans the duchess of Cambridge wore the other day but I'm a size 14 and she.... isn't....! Do you need to be slim to carry off that look?

Also, they look lovely with white trainers... can you wear ankle boots with them in winter?

If I'm deemed too heavy for the mum jeans what else can I try to get out of my jeans rut?

I’m loving more jeans options in the shops - I have ‘mom’ jeans, wide legs, 70s style flares, straight, cropped… best thing is to try and few if you can and see what works. As you say, you’ll probably need to think about footwear but try on what you’ve already got, and also tops as some of the current wider styles need tops to be tucked/shorter - the silhouette with skinny jeans was often longer/looser tops.

I just looked to see what the jeans she has are - they look more like a high waisted straight leg to me, but that might just be the image I found? Anyway, I think they would be fine on a size 14. Levi’s 501 might be a similar alternative.

I think (just personal opinion) lighter jeans look better with a flash of bare ankle and are more summery, so I am not sure that style would be so great with boots, but agree with @Salanda that trying on is key. I also agree that you might need to rethink tops. I ditched skinnies a few years ago and wear everything either tucked in or slightly cropped on top. This works well for me because I am slim-ish (10/12) but have a small waist and big bum/hips. My more Apple shaped friend has lovely slim hips, bum and legs, but hates tucking things in because her tummy is bigger.

Levis 501's. That takes me back!

I think I'll order some cheaper bits from Next as it's so easy to try on and return and I can then see how I get on before investing.
