Anyone tried natural deodorant?

Just that really. I've seen a few now and just wondering if anyone has any experience with using natural deodorant. Are they effective, any issues with rashes etc.

I like the look of these creme-fresh.com as they're also zero waste and vegan (I guess a lot are) but just wanted to know people's experiences!

TIA

I like Akt London

Dora26 · 28/06/2021 18:15

I’ve used the Salt of the Earth crystal one for years - fantastic

allofthecheese · 28/06/2021 18:29

Also use Salt of the Earth one, not the spray but the stick one. It's really good. Probably wouldn't hold up after a really intense work out but great for normal daily wear. Stings a little if used right after shaving though.

Marcanana · 28/06/2021 18:32

Salt of the Earth here; just the bog standard piece of crystal (but don't drop it on the floor as it will smash into 1000 pieces!).
But @allofthecheese is right it does sting the day you shave so might not be right for everyone. I have a normal branded antiperspirant for shaving day and days when I know I'm going to be hot and sweaty all day

Greenbks · 28/06/2021 18:35

I’m Particularly sweaty/smelly but these do the trick- mostly.

Crystal one every day to help with sweat and lemon balm to deodorise

They never worked for me, I’m quite sweaty….but now two have come along at once that do!

Number one is “fit pit” I got it in my local refill shop but you can get it online. £10 for 100ml or you can get 25ml pots for £4 so you can try it out. It’s amazing though, just need a pea sized amount and you rub it in. I have eczema and it hasn’t irritated at all and I’ve used it straight after shaving. Just had a quick sniff and I’m still fresh as a daisy and I worked 4 hours in a very hot school kitchen today.

Second one that works is AKT. I got it on the recommendation of a friend- however, I think it’s too pricy. £18 for 50ml plus it comes in an aluminium tube which has the risk of splitting or not getting all the product out. They also a tube squeezer key thing, and they wanted £9 - i got the same thing from upcircle for £1.50 - so I think they are just a bit rip off….that said, the deodorant smells nice and works, and doesn’t irritate.

I’ve been using Wild for about 3 months. The sea salt scent is to die for and I love it.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 28/06/2021 19:25

I'm a native fan, not cheap but lasts ages.

hugoagogo · 28/06/2021 20:44

Weleda citrus roll on is pretty good.
I also like the Clay Cure, neither is perfect, but then even michum and triple dry have let me down on occasion.

Starlight39 · 28/06/2021 20:47

I like the natural deodorant co and Earth conscious ones. I do think it takes a while (a few months) for your body to get used to not using anti perspirant and sweat less though so be prepared to wait it out.

bellabride · 28/06/2021 21:31

I've used the Salt of the Earth spray for years, and always felt sweet smelling!
I started using it when there were concerns raised over parabens and aluminium in antiperspirants being linked to breast cancers; I think since discredited, but if there's any question mark over that at all, I'd rather just use an alternative.

gnatgnu · 28/06/2021 21:40

Aurelia London has always worked well for me.

Powertothepetal · 28/06/2021 22:17

I’ve tried loads and the main thing I’d say is avoid any with bicarbonate of soda like the plague!

A large proportion do include this ingredient and while a lot of people manage fine with it, others have horrendous reactions.

My DH can use it fine but I can’t tolerate it at all and once came out in a severe chemical burn on both pits after using a natural deodorant containing it.

DaisyWaldron · 28/06/2021 22:22

I use Akt and it works really well and smells wonderful, but is hideously expensive. I tend not to wear perfume since I started wearing it, so I justify the price that way.

FrangipaniBlue · 28/06/2021 23:05

I use wild and I love it, I like that the packaging is recycled/recyclable aswell Smile

EveryoneIKnowIsTired · 29/06/2021 05:59

I like Wild, but it’s been leaving white marks on clothes. Can anyone recommend a natural deodorant that doesn’t leave marks?

SarahBellam · 29/06/2021 06:08

I love the Salt of the Earth one. The trick is to put it on while you’re still wet which I kept forgetting at first, but now I’ve got the hang of it I wouldn’t go back. It lasts for months so there's much less packaging waste and of course there’s cost savings as well.

capercaillie · 29/06/2021 06:14

I use earth conscious - works much better on me than an anti-perspirant.

Omgwtff · 29/06/2021 06:21

I like The Natural Deodorant Co ones. They really work and have loads of lovely scents. They're also vegan and zero waste.

Zeldaaa · 29/06/2021 08:19

@Powertothepetal I reacted very badly to the wild deodorant. It’s a shame as they smell lovely. The reusable aspect of the container appealed to me also. I persevered for a few months, even going weeks without it to help myself ‘detox’ from whilst deodorant but it didn’t help. Every time I would use the wild one I’d get a horrible burn.

Curious about others that did work for you?

Neither Fit Pit or AKT leave white marks
NotStayingIn · 29/06/2021 22:32

I've tried loads but for the last few years have stuck with Salt of the Earth (spray bottle one). Love it. I use that about 95% of the time, but if I have a big event (like say an all-day wedding invite in the middle of summer or something) then I do use a more 'unnatural' deodorant. But I'm fine with that, I wanted to reduce the number of times I use a more chemical-heavy one, and that's happening.
