Too old?

I’m mid fifties.
I’m going to a garden party. I shall be wearing a floaty Rixo dress. Could I wear Air and Grace trainers with it?
Normally I would wear a strappy sandal but I’ve injured my ankle and I need some support in that area.
I don’t want to look like an aging fashion victim. Any views?

I think that’s absolutely fine and practical anyway if you are on grass . I’m sure others will also be wearing trainers !

BestIsWest · 28/06/2021 12:44

Never too old.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/06/2021 12:44

What age is too old to wear trainers?

WhataMissMap · 28/06/2021 13:08

It’s the combination of dress and trainers that made me wonder? I could wear trousers and trainers and be 100% confident that they “go”.
The new (to me) trend of dress and trainers is a whole different dilemma.
Thank you all for your input. I don’t like being out of touch- the world keeps moving on!

Wear what's comfy and what you feel good inSmile

Craftycorvid · 28/06/2021 13:28

It’s not even sensible, never mind anything else, to wear heels if you have injured your foot. Also, always wear whatever you goddam like and never apologise! Grin

QwertyGirly · 28/06/2021 13:30

Personally, I wouldn't wear a floaty dress with trainers because you will get there and about 80% of the other female guests will be wearing that too. Everyone is wearing flowery floaty dresses with trainers these days.

And a denim jacket to complete the look.

WhataMissMap · 28/06/2021 14:01

Querty Good thinking!
If they are all 30 years younger the contrast could be alarming too!

I’ll go with trousers, trainers and feeling comfortable.

Thank you all for your input.

I wore trainers and dresses in the 90s so feel entitled to wear them again. Your outfit sounds lovely.

HelenHywater · 28/06/2021 14:10

Agree with @QwertyGirly - I went out for lunch yesterday and every single woman (middle aged or otherwise) was wearing a midi dress and white trainers

Gonegrey31 · 28/06/2021 14:11

Rixo dresses are absolutely lovely ! You should wear yours with pride don’t be put off . Don’t dress down for fear of comparisons

Salanda · 28/06/2021 14:58

Wear the Rixo dress! They’re such beautiful dresses and I bet you’ll look and feel great in it. You could always swap the trainers for flat sandals if you wanted to.

Tehmina23 · 28/06/2021 15:34

@WhataMissMap I have Rixo dress envy! I would wear it.

somewheresorted · 28/06/2021 15:40

Omg… I’m 49 and what I love about being this age is that I no longer have to give a f*ck about conforming to the rigid rules of what we should be wearing at a certain age…
