So we've decided give our bedroom make over, after many years. What sort of colours are in?I know grey is in but want to give the bedroom a classy look.
I have a white hollywood type dressing table so anything that would compliment that too.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.Thankyou.

I'd put this in home decoration rather than here, you'll get replies over there.

Some pictures would be really helpful, itcwould also be useful to know which direction your bedroom window/s face?

Bedrooms are so personal. Go with what you love not what is in.

steppemum · 27/06/2021 20:13

with room decoration, I usually start with something I love, or something thathas to stay.

That might be a picture or a sofa.
In a bedroom that might be the bed (wrought iron or pine?)
It might be a new duvet set (pink flowers? red elephants? Pure white?)

Then use that as a style and colour starting point

So in my bedroom I had a duvet cover that was form seomwhere I used to live, not remotely fashionable I'm sure. It was dark red and white batik. We started there, and went for a slightly oriental style theme. Silver grey walls, metal lampshades etc.

Very personal to me!

So - what do you like, what has to stay or what has caught your eye? It might be something like a lamp, or cushion that starts you off.

My fav things in bedrooms at the minute is matching mirrors either side of the bed above the bedside cabinets - great for reflecting the lamps!

Also, do you need drawers in your bedside cabinets? I've put tray tables either side of our bed - it gives a roomier feel I think?

I like colour.

I bought a new green velvet headboard and worked around that. I have a very colourful back wall then the other walls are painted a complimentary but muted colour.

Agree with PP, work around something you love or is staying.

this sounds lovely in theory, but I would HATEit!

The reason is quite simple. I often have my bedside light on reading after dh has turned his off to go to sleep. Occasionally other way round.
One light is enough, if that light were to be reflected in a mirror it would make it impossible for the other person to sleep.

But that is a great example of looking at both the practical and the beautiful.
I have drawers by my bed as we don't have enough storage elsewhere.
What do you have and what do you need?

KEH1982 · 27/06/2021 22:17

@steppemum
Oh I totally get it.

I'm a little obsessed with Philips hue though so we can dim the lights/change the colour to suit so it's not just a bright on or off option Smile

I like the suggestion above about picking a painting you like or maybe even bright wallpaper and using that as inspiration for the rest of the room.

Firstly ask yourselves how you want your bedroom to make you feel.

Do you want light, airy and uplifting? Then brights and whites

Moody and sultry? Dark corners and deep hues

Relaxing and calming? Pale greens and mutes

Pretty and fun? Florals and frills

Then pick your furniture and hardware according to how modern or traditional you want.

Your mirror could lend itself to a glam Hollywood theme.

What's your favourite colour/ colours?

I'm redoing mine, and definitely incorporating blush and sage

steppemum · 27/06/2021 23:18

KEH1982 - it does sound lovely, it just wouldn't work for me.

I think that a lot when I see house makeovers. Lovely to look out but would it work for the person living there?

For example I need somewhere to stack books by my bed.
And a charging lead for me phone, so my bedroom make over would include that.

I think it is helpful to 'watch' how you use a room for a few weeks. Do you need a dumping ground for glasses/phone/earrings? or do you put those in eg bathroom?
Where do you need the mirror? By a plug for hairdryer? By a window for make up?
What about clothes - do you need a chair to dump todays clothes on, or do you always fold/sort/put away?

Thankyou everyone, really appreciate it.
