How much do you spend on beauty stuff?

I think I'm pretty low maintenance but even so it adds up.

Every 6 weeks I have:

Haircut £53
Eyebrow shape and tint, eyelash tint £25

I pay about £12 for a fairly ordinary moisturiser, £36 for a "nice" foundation £15 for concealer, plus blusher and tinted lip balm. Probably around £30pm on average

So that's total of say £90 pm, which seems a lot to me even though I can afford it comfortably. I quite fancy a regular manicure, but it seems a ridiculous extravagance.

People who do all the treatments, facials, waxing, nails, hair colour, fake tan, full make up etc must be spending a fortune. How do "ordinary" people manage it?

@ExConstance

Hair cut every 6 weeks and colouring every 12 works out at £55 per month. Make up maybe £20 per month, has to be Clinique because of allergies and you get lots of free samples to eke it out. I pluck my eyebrows myself, fortunately they are not too unruly. waxing adds another £20 or so. £95 intotal, and worth every penny.
Hi, can you use No7 make up and that's good for skin allergies?
BusterGonad · 28/06/2021 14:18

Sometimes I spend loads... Sometimes a little. At the moment I'm working through my make up as I'm moving (to another country) and need to condense it. So, as crazy as it sounds, I've ditched all my mismatched foundations and keept one and bought another that's perfect (Clinique Even Better), I've also purchased a few Clinique lipsticks and gotten rid of all the drying, old and wrong coloured one. I've purchased the Clinique Even Better Pop Foundation ones in the colours that match my foundation shade, they have a colour chart to show your perfect Naked, Casual and Glamorous shades. I also bought 3 of the original colour pops (Poppy, Melon and Plum). So now I look in my make up case and am really happy with it. I use Pantene or similar shampoo and conditioner, I use baby lotion or l'oreal cleanser, and baby creams (Sebamed cream extra soft) for my skin as its very sensitive and extremely dry/reactitive. I dye my hair every month L'oreal (£5) and I buy disposable contacts when needed so maybe about £25 every 6 months, I get my haircut maybe twice a year (£20). So at a guess on a usual month maybe £40 depending on make up purchases.

BusterGonad · 28/06/2021 14:19

I do my own nails, eyebrows and hair removal and I don't do botox or any of that.

BusterGonad · 28/06/2021 14:31

Citygirl1961 I've got a Bareminerals foundation stick which I find very soothing for my skin.

seensome · 28/06/2021 16:01

Hair - highlights, trim and blow dry 12-15 weeks £120.

Gel nails every two weeks £30
Eyelash lift & tint six weeks £35
Pedicure 3x a year £40
Moisturiser, serum, night creams, I'm happy to pay around £45 each and would last at least 4 months.

Beauty box subscription £13 a month
Beauty pie subscription £10, say £20-30 a month with a couple of purchases.

Addicted to lipsticks and pay up to £25, I've lost count how many this year but probably one a month.

I have a ton of make up that I've bought over the last few years, a few hundred, don't need buy anything for a while apart from my lipstick addiction, my favourite foundation I buy twice a year No7 not expensive £12 I think

Dior perfume £58 will be my summer fragrance.

I don't have waxes, do fake tan myself, st Tropez bottle I may buy twice a year.

Aha almost forgot, my Botox £200 lasts 6 months approx, my get my lips done again this year £250

When my kids were small I was a Sahm and could only just about afford my hair, now the kids are older and I'm earning more so I'm finally able to enjoy treating myself.

grasstreeleaf · 28/06/2021 18:36

For people with a lot of makeup, how do you get through it before the use by? Some of my stuff wouldn't run out for years, (especially highly pigmented mineral makeup items) if it wasn't for use by dates, even though I wear most of it everyday.

Which No7 foundation do you use?
Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 23:08

You’re asking the wrong person here - I own more than 70 lipsticks!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 28/06/2021 23:15

Nope, not doing it, I refuse to feel the guilt.

Hair cut and colour every 6 weeks
Nails every 3 weeks
I love buying make up and have loads on the go constantly. (I never wear the same colours for eyes/lips/blush 2 days in a row).

Ninkanink · 28/06/2021 23:18

Who said anything about guilt?

Why would you feel guilty for spending your own money on something you enjoy that makes you feel good?

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 28/06/2021 23:19

Ah, but I would feel the guilt if I actually added it all up. Better I live in blissful ignorance but looking fab.

Ninkanink · 28/06/2021 23:25

Ah ok that makes more sense! I thought I’d missed a shaming comment or something...

seensome · 28/06/2021 23:26

@citygirl1961 no7 hydra luminous

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 28/06/2021 23:29

I pay no heed to use by dates on make up. If it smells alright and looks alright I will slap it on my face.

I appreciate that won’t work for everyone but it works for me. My favourite Chanel single pot eyeshadow is approx 10 years old and still hasn’t run out and I use it regularly.

ZednotZee · 28/06/2021 23:32

I think I'm quite speedy.

£100 on foils and a cut every three months.
£20 on a blow dry roughly every three weeks.

I probably spend £100 a month on Dior make up/fragrance although DH usually pays for this. I am addicted to their lips glow, blush, foundation and fragrance.
I do my own nails but buy a Dior nail glow at £22 every couple of months.

I do my own eyebrows too and actually use a cheapy eyelure kit from B&M.

My mascara is avon so about £7 per month.

Skincare can be anywhere from £20-100 per month. I recently bought an LCD mask too.

Actually adding it all up, not too bad. Thought it would be worse.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/06/2021 23:34

I do none of those & I've been cutting my hair for over a decade, so on a regular base it's zero.

I love the Vaseline body lotions (all 3 scents) so I buy them when on offer which is maybe every 6m?

I occasionally buy a bottle or 3 of nail polish to add to my collection - seldom get to use them so haven't bought any in ages.
I heard good things about Dior Glow Nail so might get that soon.

that's about it.
now ask me how much I spend on fabric and luxury hand dyed merino & other yarns🤣

tzarine · 28/06/2021 23:35

i'm cheap
i do my own nails (tho if im overseas & my feet are trashed, ill splurge for a pedicure
i use le roche or biore sunscreen

BusterGonad · 29/06/2021 10:06

To the poster who asked aot used by dates, I pay no attention either. If it looks fine and smells fine then you're good to go.

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2021 10:14

Same. I was astonished when I discovered cosmetics even had use by dates! I’ve never even glanced at them.
grasstreeleaf · 29/06/2021 10:57

Tbh I have been wondering about the use by if it's a bit of a marketing ploy. Simply because they are just a use within so many months with not actual date on it. The shop/warehouse could've had it on the shelf for years for all you can tell. I suppose hygiene wise use will affect some products more than others like eye and lip products for example. Also making sure brushes are clean. But loose mineral powder you shake out of box?

grasstreeleaf · 29/06/2021 10:58

And they never had use by dates years ago.Grin

ArabeI · 29/06/2021 12:43

I've had some lipsticks for years! The only thing I pay attention to, as far as use by dates go, is mascara (it usually clumps and runs out first to be fair) eye liner, moisturisers and lip balms.

I forgot to add that I used to (a long while ago) get my eyelashes tinted but recently started doing my own at home using a salon quality kit. I also started using Rapidlash serum though I haven't seen much improvement...yet.

user1483387154 · 29/06/2021 13:02

pretty much zero atm due to finances, however when feeling rich haircut every 3 months, moisturiser every day and massage 2x year

ChampagneWorries · 29/06/2021 13:11

Actually daily skin care products - 4k a year ish. These are a mixture of La Mer and Dermalogica.

Nails - £30 every 2 weeks

Waxing, lashes etc £40 a month

Make up - £400 a year

Hair - £100 every 6 weeks

And my skin still looks like shit

66babe · 29/06/2021 17:35

@ArabeI I've been dipping a cotton bud in some Pukka Castor oil (£7 off Amazon) and rubbing that along my eyelashes .. every night after cleansing and every morning if I'm WFH or not going anywhere
I really notice a difference .. more lashes and a bit longer too
Should really rub it on my crap eyebrows too ... note to self
