Closed toe summer shoes please!

I’m 39, overweight and scruffy working from home and having a toddler (currently self-isolating and climbing the walls so I’m feeling even worse).

Summer has always been painful for me in terms of shoes because I have horrible wide flat feet with toes detached from each other, so try to avoid sandals. At the same time, I need to be comfortable running after my son when out so heels are a no go. I love flat pumps but they look out of fashion and would also need something slightly wedged to compensate for my short legs! Any recommendations for something fitting these requirements yet kind of trendy?

There have been loads of discussions on here just lately about trainers and how they can be dressed up if you find something a bit smarter than sports trainers. I am a fan of Fitflop Rally trainers because I have problem feet. I have also bought trainers from Clarks and Hotter before, neither are particularly trendy brands but better than you might think if you choose carefully, and they do wide fit. I am quite petite with size 6 feet so I know what you mean about sandals, I dont love my feet so never want to show them off!

If you want something more summery what about espadrilles? M&S have some nice ones but the wedge might be a bit high for running about after a toddler.

Fitflop Cova are closed toe sandals.
I also live in Fitflop Rally sneakers.
Menorcan sandals (Solillas, Palmairas, Avarcas, Ria etc) are virtually closed toe.

Thank you both! Smile
I have looked at these and like both the Cova (which is more or less what I was thinking about) and the idea of the trainers (I like the Rally not being completely flat). However I can’t seem to be able to keep white shoes white Confused are they easy to clean or would I risk to look like a toddler myself? Grin

They are brilliant- I just sling mine in the washer. I'm on my fourth or fifth summer in them now. And sooooo comfy. You may need to size up depending- they can be quite snug.
I'm pondering the reddish Covas. Smile

Great! Thanks for the advice on sizing too. Smile

@LoveBeingAMum555 I would love espadrillas but I can’t actually find a reasonable (for me) wedge, do you have any ideas?

I swear by Pavers, they do shoes that are plaited elastic, serious comfort and they come in different colours

Standrewsschool · 26/06/2021 19:07

I don’t like opened toe sandals either.

I have these:
Josef seibel
Comes in various colours.

Reiker 1
I have these in a denim blue colour

Reiker 2
Have a slight heel

Both come in various colours also.

Had my eye on these also
m and s

Forgot to say, both the Josef Seibel and Reiker shoes are really comfortable, and I happily go for walks in them.

@aprdilemma Matalan have some online for £15, OK they might not last very long but the wedge heel isnt too high. I did look at Boden ones that are quite flat, but £80 is a heck of lot of money for non-waterproof shoes that wont get much wear. I also have a feeling that the style of them would just make my feet look bigger.

To be honest I keep looking at espadrilles but by the time I have made my mind up it will probably be autumn again!

Kurt Geiger Monty Espadrilles look high but are super comfortable and easy to wear. There is also a lower heel Minty. I love the ones with nude strap as matches my skin tone so makes legs look longer!

Lots of good suggestions here, thanks a lot. The kurt Geiger ones look actually ok to me from the pictures in terms of height !

Skechers! Bought some yesterday as I have horrendous feet, wide with plantat facsitis and bunions. I got their Bobs (version of Toms) which are straw heeled, memory foam soles and super comfy… as well as the black sneaker type
