It won't look like that on me

I see lots of ads for dresses that I really like, but then see that the 'model is wearing size 10 and is 5'10".
Now, I'm size 16 and 5'0". Nothing is going to look good! Maybe it would be useful if we could see clothes on models who are short and fat, we'd have a much better idea of what to buy.

@RickiTarr did you see the thread about the Zara model on AIBU? That pretty much summed it up! I've seen thousands of posts on here saying plus size models shouldn't be allowed. The only acceptable range seems to be size 8-10 or they're too thin or too fat

I didn’t. Sometimes I feel like everyone has an eating disorder.

I'm glad others find the snag tights adverts off putting. I can't bring myself to try them.

I'm not fattist, I'm too fat myself but they have a look and they aren't relatable for me.

The most annoying thing though is that not one of their models seems to have a properly fitting bra. It makes me question how interested they really are in the comfort and fit for real women. I mean if every model is wearing a saggy awful bra should I believe their tights/stockings won't also be saggy and ill fitting?

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 25/06/2021 16:52
@TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet no, I'm not fattist so you're jumping to conclusions there or projecting. I'm a size 14 so not slim.

But the brands I mentioned - molke and snag - have a certain demographic and I'm not sure what it is exactly that puts me off both brands. Molke in particular but that could be because the Bras look hideous

It's disingenuous to pretend you have no idea what I mean.

I like a previous posters idea of showing clothing on a size 10, size 16 model. That's a good idea
No I didn’t know what you meant, as you didn’t actually say that in your first post did you?

I also find it a little hard to believe you can’t see past hair colour and other expressions of personality to decide whether underwear might fit you. I don’t have blue hair or multiple tattoos but I can still see that the snag tights seem to fit well on a plus size person. In fact I bought two pairs from them because they show plus size women wearing tights, which I’ve never seen any other brand do. The model’s hair colour is irrelevant.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 25/06/2021 16:53

Also snag tights come in the usual nude and black colours too, not just the brightly coloured ones

BatFaceGirly · 25/06/2021 17:07

@TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet but all of that clearly isn't irrelevant as it's turning me off purchasing. And I can't be the only one.

You're not. I keep getting snag ads on FB, some very plus size woman lounging on a bed with her legs in the air showing off her tights and stilettos....it's like a niche lite-porn ad.

BatFaceGirly · 25/06/2021 18:05

@Kobayashi21 yes. And the one who is literally with her legs wide open.

But it's inclusive innit and you dislike fat people if you say it's not for you. Hmm

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 25/06/2021 19:04

@Kobayashi21 see why did you have to specify the plus size bit? Are you put off Ads with slimmer women in the same pose?

MaMelon · 25/06/2021 19:05

@Kobayashi21 - these exact photos were appearing on my Facebook feed! No idea why, I hadn’t heard of Snag until they appeared, and I’m not exactly their target demographic. They are pretty explicit for a an advert for tights and quite niche as you say.

MaMelon · 25/06/2021 19:07

Yep. I don’t buy tights based on adverts featuring women lying on their back with their legs in the air.

I described the ad. Why would I not mention the model was plus size, given that this is a thread literally about the size of models in ads? It would be odd if I didn't mention it!

MaMelon · 25/06/2021 19:12

I don’t find rolls of fat particularly attractive on men or women so would be less likely to buy their tights based on their ads - but as I said, I’m not their target demographic.
