Can I still wear this?

Quicknamechange2 · 24/06/2021 13:51

Going through my wardrobe and have lots of dresses which I wore in my 20s for drunken nights out. Early 30s now and past that stage. Can this kind of dress be worn for other things or do I need to chuck them? Sorry, I'm absolutely clueless on fashion and what's suitable for what occasion.

Can I still wear this?

It looks great.

The dress itself isn’t my taste but you look fantastic in it and I suspect you would make a bin bag look good

lindyloo57 · 24/06/2021 15:50

Lovely dress, my daughter still wears dresses like that on nights out, and she's 44.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 24/06/2021 16:02

It looks perfectly fine!

Since when do early 30s people not have nights out on the lash?
youth of today

Bluntness100 · 24/06/2021 16:05

Wow why no more drunken nights out? I’m in my fifties and still not past that stage!

The dress looks lovely though.

beeloubee · 24/06/2021 16:05

Yes and I love it

cookiecreampie · 24/06/2021 16:07

I'm early 30s and my drunken nights out are behind me too. You have a great figure though, so yes wear it.

MargosKaftan · 24/06/2021 16:09

Depends on where you live- I've found south east - unless you are going clubbing, people don't dress up in the same way as when I lived in the North. (Have lived both sides of the pennines, dressing up for just meal out or drinks is perfectly normal for all age ranges, sort of miss it when everything is more low key in the south unless you are "out out").

Can't see the dress very clearly on mobile app, could it be toned down with jacket and flats?

BarefootHippieChick · 24/06/2021 16:12

I'm 40s and I still love drunken nights out (looks longingly at closed nightclubs). The dress looks fab, wear it with ankle boots and leather jacket in the winter or funky trainers or sandals in the summer. You could wear it for meals out, family occasions etc.

idontlikealdi · 24/06/2021 16:16

Doesn't scream clubbing dress to me, stick some sandals on, job done

Grellbunt · 24/06/2021 16:24

Since there's been a global pandemic on...???
cookiecreampie · 24/06/2021 17:11

Also, raising a young family puts a stop to wild nights out for the foreseeable future too.

Iggi999 · 24/06/2021 17:14

That's the point though, it's not a one way street - "turn 30 and it's behind you" kind of thing. In my 50s I'm having more opportunities for nights out than I did ten years ago!
You still look great in the dress, it's tony so won't take up much room, don't limit yourself!

Iggi999 · 24/06/2021 17:15

Tiny, even - Tony would be harder to store!

Backhills · 24/06/2021 17:19

I think the dress is nice and looks lovely on you, certainly not too young for someone in their 30s, but I can't really think where you'd wear it if not for a summer evening in the pub.

AspartameMartin · 24/06/2021 17:20

I just always wonder whether these posts are men in dresses trying out female clothes to see if they can ‘pass’. Grin
It’s a totally generic dress, and you look fabulous.

Ouch. A bit of a backhanded compliment.

Is this a humblebrag... Grin

Go for it!!

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 24/06/2021 18:44

Op . You can wear whatever you like .

Tehmina23 · 24/06/2021 18:54

It's a really nice dress & suits you. You could definitely wear it dressed up or down.
I've seen similar dresses for sale recently in various stores so it's still stylish looking.

I've kept a hardly worn Miss Selfridge slip dress from when I was 22 in er, 1998 /9... it could be worn today as it's back in fashion but not by me sadly!!

notmethenwho · 24/06/2021 19:27

I'd wear it with some clumpy ankle boots during the day. Maybe a denim jacket.

Cute!

Quicknamechange2 · 24/06/2021 19:39

Thank you very much for all the replies. Heartened to read that it's not going to be a faux pas to wear it to a restaurant (I am in the North, Margoskaftan, and people do love dressing up). I've gone way too casual to weddings and other 'big' events in the past so am not confident on this stuff at all. Good tips on dressing it down too. Thanks again.

I thought you meant you came from a town called Margotskaftan!

SwordPlay · 24/06/2021 21:59

Lovely dress, I own quite a few like this myself. Also in early 30s and not going out much, I wear them at home and for walks in the summer.

My DP laughs at me and finds it endearing that I do the dishes wearing party dresses..

You look great xx
